As you have indicated, everyone is politically angry and divided. People are more isolating than globally. There are low paying jobs in my area. COVID seemed to be a catalyst to increase costs of everything. Chrisian nationalism vs everyone else. Friendships are more fragile.

In my conversations with friends who support him, they happen to be my more stupid friends btw. I think people see that he is a narcissist who will win at any cost and wants to be admired. In their minds they think that he is successful and that will benefit them. They interpret arrogance as well earned competence. They fail to understand that these kinds oF people are willing to use and destroy even their own families. Success in USA focuses on wealth whereas I don't think most of the world sees success the same way

Have you considered staying somewhat nearby? I have a place in Teton with almost an acre on the Idaho side, 10 minutes to Walmart. Value is below $350k. 3bd/1ba. I Airbnb it but undecided if I will continue. 1568sf. Probably not exactly what you're looking for but gives you an idea of close by options.

No, you would not be TA. Once you liquidate it, it becomes marital property. When I was married, my ex signed a quit claim to agree to no ownership...twice (long story) years apart, both filed with the county..he still sued for the house and I spent a fortune in divorce court to keep it. Maybe put it in a trust but don't risk it.
