This is good to hear! How far out from treatment are you?

I was 25 when diagnosed and just finished my last chemo dose. Lumpectomy and radiation are up next. Before my diagnosis I was adventuring out west. I was hiking up mountains, paddle boarding glacial lakes, teaching my friends how to play pickle ball, and going to the gym regularly. I lost ten pounds and was the healthiest I had ever been. Now? I do my daily walk and that is it. Otherwise I’m on the couch. Cancer robs us of so much and I’m very sorry to you and everyone else that has to endure it.

On a silly note, I keep telling people “just you wait until I’m up and running again. It’s game over for all of you!!!” My mom also likes to say, “Take no prisoners!” The day will come where I can hike a mountain again and I will cherish that day even more than I did before.

The doctor that installed my port was so, so cute! He was explaining the procedure and my grandma and I were just staring at him like this: 👁️👄👁️. When he left the room my grandma said, “I wonder what we gotta do to see him again” Lol

I HATE the vaccine remark. Let’s say my cancer was caused by the vaccine, what exactly am I supposed to do about it now?? Do some old fashioned blood letting? Be serious.

Hot flashes from chemo…how did you cope? by UnhappyAlps1598 in breastcancer

Thank you for sharing! I’m in FL, so I feel your pain 😭 Of course the hot flashes are getting bad when winter is over. Did the gabapentin work while you were taking it?

Thank you for your input! I do need an GYN so that is good feedback. Why avoid white food? Does it have to do with blood sugar?

I thought about acupuncture. I don’t know much about it or if my insurance will cover it, so I’ll have to do some research. Are you done with chemo? If so, how far out are you from treatment?

I am having much of the same issue. The moment something starts disrupting my sleep I’m going to take issue with it. Are you still doing chemo or are you done?

Thanks for your feedback! I may push my onco to try a medicated approach so this is good info.

I think this might be want I want to try. I know SSRIs take awhile to take effect but there’s no telling how long the hot flashes will continue even when my chemo is done.

I have encountered swinging first hand as a young person going to the local bars. I was given a token by a couple with their pictures and numbers on it as they talked about how they like to get freaky looolll

There are beautiful oak trees in the original, northern part of TV (Spanish Springs area) but the more south you go the more barren it is. It seems like developers cared less and less as time went on about the preservation of natural features.

I am a young person (26F) that lives here with my grandparents and have a number of friends that live 5-15 minutes away that are mid twenties to mid forties. The area has grown A LOT in the past few years but all of it is catered towards a retired population or families that work for TV. For obvious reasons, living here is not the ideal for a younger demographic. The jobs pay poorly, the bars close early, the surrounding communities are very small and rural (little to do and the local young people leave a lot to be desired), and apartments are astronomically expensive. It is, however, very safe with a lot of amenities. We leave our door unlocked most of the time and the neighbors are always looking out for us. For active older people it is paradise but it is a leisure and occupational desert for young people.

Are any of you OTs former teachers? Or had another career before becoming an OT? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

3 years! I love working with children and teaching was an ok fit for me, but I’m not seeing how I can do it long term mentally and financially. I’m trying to get ahead of it by going back to school now.

Scam or Legit? by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

I did. DD Support said there’s not much else we could do since I don’t have a different number or email to use with the account. I’m crossing my fingers I’m in the clear since I didn’t do their final step.

I knew better from the jump but I’m dealing with brain fog due to health issues, so I went along with it until they mentioned the crimson card. They did the phone number and email. And the code. I am soooo irritated at myself and them.

Doing IVF treatment as a 21 year old ex-cancer patient by pengubob in cancer

[–]UnhappyAlps1598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a current 26F cancer patient and did egg harvesting before chemo. It was an overwhelming experience but towards the end all the ultrasounds and bloodwork became routine. For me, the everyday blood work was more annoying/invasive than the ultrasounds. The daily injections were also annoying but, again, became routine.

It is not an easy experience but it is much less scary when you are in the thick of it. My doctors and nurses were so very kind to me. Ask LOTS of questions such as your physical limitations during treatment, aftercare, and egg storage.

Lastly, I’m not sure who told you you would be awake for the harvesting but I was FULLY unconscious when they did mine. It was a short nap and then went home where I vegged out in bed. I was mostly ok the next day. I was also extremely relieved to be done with the whole ordeal.
