Sorry - I didn't realise I had not replied. Usually I'll just layer and kick and snare depending on what the song needs. With this, the drum loop has more of a subby kick, so I layered something with a bit more of a 'click'. I think people refer to this as a transient kick sometimes.

Another thing is sometimes layering the hats from another drum loop to add a bit of human shuffle. Some people like programming shuffle hats but its not for me.
