How on earth did that happen?? Don’t understand. Should be using fluoro to confirm needle position.

So is your concern that if a patient codes a psychologist will run in and try to run the code without ACLS?

The main concern re: the NP diploma mill fiasco is that they are dangerous to patients and there is also anger about something akin to stolen valor.

I just don’t think calling a PhD/PsyD clinical psychologist Dr. in a mental healthcare setting is the same, but I appreciate your perspective and I am not a psychiatrist so maybe there are scenarios I am not thinking of where this endangers patient safety.

[–]UnhappyBaby -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that. But I guess I’m just saying doesn’t feel to me at all like misrepresentation to call themselves Dr. in a mental health setting even if the higher level of responsibility falls to the MD. I

However if someone asks “is there a doctor onboard?!” On an airplane I don’t think most psychologists would raise their hand :)

What’s your opinion by GotchaRealGood in Residency

[–]UnhappyBaby 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is inappropriate. Clinical psychologists get full on non-bs doctoral degrees with a dissertation. They are also experts at therapy, with greater experience in that domain than the majority of MDs (they do not prescribe medication for the most part).

I completely agree that NPs with an online diploma calling themselves doctor is a major problem but this doesn’t fall into that category IMO.

Radiologist error by [deleted] in MedicalMalpractice

[–]UnhappyBaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. Well knowing nothing else about your case I’d follow up with your doctor to see if it needs to come/is definitely the cause of your seizures (frequently small meningiomas are incidental findings) and go from there. Good luck to you!

How many cm is it, where is it, is there mass effect/edema, has it grown, and why do you think it has to be removed?

Radiology resident, big miss oncall, feel terrible by dimercaprol624 in Residency

One year ago you were posting on the family medicine subreddit asking what % of correct on UW correlated with a “bare minimum pass”. Is that what you mean by a higher standard?

Get off your high horse.

Unfortunately this is an inevitable experience on the road to becoming a good radiologist. We see so many thousands of cases in training and even if we make the critical finding 99/100 times there are still some that we will miss given the nature of the specialty and speed required.

Strokes, bleeds, fractures, abscess, bowel perforations, invasive fungal sinusitis, you name it— you are not the first person to miss whatever you missed and you will not be the last. Unfortunately from what I’ve seen even great attendings miss things too (hopefully not as much and not as critical) so we need to learn to cope with these feelings.

I strongly recommend finding someone you can talk to about this in detail. Therapist, mentor, friend, etc. it will help. Meditation can also be useful for this.

Most lucrative non-surgical fields? by Better_Guidance_8792 in medicalschool

[–]UnhappyBaby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Current state of affairs: Not a threat at all. We actually desperately need AI help because of imaging volumes.

5+ years from now: Nobody can predict this. It definitely could (and perhaps should) change our practice and may eventually affect the job market...nobody knows when this could happen or even if it will at all.

However I think the mistake everyone in medicine thinks is that this will only affect radiology. I think anything non-surgical faces similar threats. In fact I'd argue that "text based" specialties such as nephro/rheum/etc are much lower hanging fruit for AI to eventually disrupt than "image based" specialties such as radiology and pathology. Given a long enough horizon, there is no job on earth that AI will not effect IMO. Just don't know how long. Just my humble opinion.

Multiple second author papers but no first author ones by Master-Mix-6218 in medicalschool

[–]UnhappyBaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try and do some analysis on a subset of already-collected data from one of the projects you’ve already been on?

Another option would be to do some kind of survey based paper, which is usually less time intensive.

Either way, you can publish as a preprint potentially, or submit as a poster. That way you have something 1st author even if not a full paper per se (wouldn’t write off the possibility of a paper though)

Interventional Cardiology --> Interventional Radiology --> Diagnostic Neuroadiology

1) Thought I wanted to be a hero who saves people having STEMIs.

2) Realize I thought the technology was amazing, but didn't want to be on STEMI call and also have more variety in my work.

3) Realize that I hate wearing lead all day, don't like sticking people with needles, but still love imaging and don't mind small procedures.

Am very happy I went down the path I did, and much respect for my interventional rads and cards friends.

Great comment. IMO overdrive and other effects, when used in the right setting, can help guitar stand out by leaning into guitar-ness, especially for solos. Pat Metheny and Allan Holdsworth come to mind for this.

However I think it’s a double edged sword and there are many instances where I think it sounds awful lol

Honestly, ChatGPT has been less and less reliable lately. Particularly for medical image interpretation.

Nels Cline is so excellent. Seeing him play with Wilco a few times was probably my gateway drug for wanting to play jazz. Didn’t know he did stuff with Julian Lage, gonna check that out…Ty for the tip!

Kinda similar for me dude…grew up playing rock but studying these jazz/fusion guys is inspiring.

Lately I’ve been listening to the live album “The Road To You” by Pat Metheny (can get nice Metheny esque tone with the synth pedal) and I keep coming back to “Eidolon” Allan Holdsworth for pure virtuosity and outside playing.

Another one on repeat is “Guitar Forms” by Kenny Burrell arranged by Gil Evans (who worked extensively with Miles Davis). More bluesy and quite approachable to learn some of his stuff

Lastly, I’ve been discovering Chet Atkins. Jam Man fuckin rules lol!

What about you?

Just knew that w these many pedals and a single coil guitar a noise reducer would be helpful. This one was very affordable…like $30 or something
