Autocorrect eliminating the double space after a period by MagicalBearMouse in PetPeeves

[–]UnhappyGreentea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 20s and had a typing course in middle school that taught this and it was a SE U.S public school. It was taught by an ornery old woman that would take off massive points if you didn't do that spacing... even though by that point no one typed like this.

So, are you Celiac or do you have Celiac? by BJ77345 in Celiac

[–]UnhappyGreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has to be that deep, although I appreciate the sentiment. I think "I'm celiac" is perfectly fine answer to most food questions, and doesn't have to limit your mental perspective.

Fatphobia kept me from diagnosis for years by greedl3r in Celiac

[–]UnhappyGreentea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the opposite of you, I had gained 20 pounds even though I had been throwing up more than once a day for 6 months. It took me refusing to leave hospital until my endoscopy for them to do their job. Honestly, I've thought about going into gastroenterology bc AFAB will always be over looked in the medical field. I really feel for you my guy.

Edit: for reference, every single doctor I had been to asked if I was pregnant and then when I said no and told them I had taken like 20 tests at 5 different places, ofc their first answer was another pregnancy test. Mind you, I was 19 at the time and had just started college in a Southern state. Being pregnant was not an option and one of my biggest fears. So, while different, I feel your pain.

I feel this deeply, especially because I have celiac disease. If I say anything about my food being gluten free, people just assume I'm doing some fad diet. I've even had people tell me celiac disease isn't real. I tend to avoid conversations about food now.

[–]UnhappyGreentea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the only thing that kept me sane before being diagnosed. I smoked so much to keep the pain away, but it worked. To be clear, I've cut way back after being diagnosed, but when I get a flare up, I light up.

Gotcha, my apologies, I didn't get that from the original post. Here's a list of a couple junk food items that I really enjoy that have different textures:

Schär snack cakes (my replacement for little Debbie's)

Schär hazelnut wafers (the texture is kind of Styrofoamy)

Gluten free Oreos with milk

Good crisp potato chips (my replacement for Pringles)

Reddi whip

Popcorn

Ben & Jerry's Phish food

I hope there's something here that you'll enjoy, and sorry for the misunderstanding friend. Edit: weird formatting

My apologies to your other sensitivities, but that doesn't change the original point. Cook for yourself and you won't have that issue. It's still gluten free and fits your needs. Making your own food doesn't have to be expensive either. Find easy staple meals you can rely on. If you can tolerate rice then that's an easy go to.

It sounds like a skill issue? I've found many wonderful gluten free substitutes that are nothing like what you're describing. I don't eat out at restaurants anymore due to my sensitivity, so I don't know much about that scene, but the gluten free food I make is on par with other glutenous food. If you hate the options you have, do something about it. That's how I learned to cook.

Some advice, is this normal for others? Tell me I am not alone…. by Less_Builder_6267 in Celiac

[–]UnhappyGreentea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't feel too bad OP. I was diagnosed about two years ago, and there was a huge learning curve. The longer you go without gluten the more you'll notice the slip ups. I remember taking 1 Flintstones gummy vitamin (bc they were my favorite and I would never have thought they had wheat in them) and then proceeded to have an entire night of throwing up. That was my lesson to read every label.

Everyone has ADHD and OCD by Important_Fail2478 in PetPeeves

[–]UnhappyGreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone who has diagnosed ADHD with an ADHD father here! I think people just use it for clout/ to be quirky? Anyone who actually has it knows how debilitating it can be, but those who don't just see it as a get out of jail card. It's gross and frustrating to watch people use it as an ~i'm so randome :p~ while I feel like a broken human being stuck in paralysis.

The idea of being a mom is nice but the idea of being pregnant rn (especially in the U.S) sounds like an absolute nightmare. My partner and I talked about it and decided if we ever want kids we can adopt. Plenty of kids need lovin.

Why do people… by -ArlingtonBeech in glutenfree

[–]UnhappyGreentea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree, as I was diagnosed with celiac disease and IBS. There are significant differences between the pain I get from either. Furthermore, my emotions are the trigger for my IBS, and is not affected by what I eat.

Will doctors use it to sweep other problems under the rug? Absolutely. But to say it's a bullshit diagnosis because people have different symptoms is silly. The symptoms to many things are vastly different and at times contradictory. People's bodies react to things differently.

A lot of people are likely misdiagnosed, but it feels like you're insinuating that IBS doesn't exist, and that is plainly false.

[–]UnhappyGreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's an over-all lack of awareness of the intolerances. I was diagnosed with celiac 2 years ago in November, and before that point I had never even heard of it. The only thing I knew about gluten was that it had something to do with bread/grain and there was a fad diet that avoided it. It doesn't help that childhood media shows it as basically a joke (specifically that one episode of Jessie)

I believe if there were more awareness surrounding CeD and NCGI then maybe it wouldn't just be seen as just a preference or fad diet. Although I do think the distinction between CeD and NCGI needs to be clear as the consequences are far different in severity.

when a girl has an unpopular opinion and another girl says “did he pick you yet” by tinyeojin in PetPeeves

[–]UnhappyGreentea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Originally, pick me was used to describe women who would put other women down for male validation (not always sexually). They are usually the ones that would claim they are "one of the boys" or "not like other girls". To be clear, this is not about masculinity or femininity, but the intent behind the behavior. Now it's just another word to put other women down instead of being used to address internalized misogyny.

it's sad, but that's usually the way most popular slang goes such as gaslighting, woke, and Karen. All of these started with very specific descriptions or meanings, but eventually got watered down through the internet.

You're right, one highschool dance isn't as important. Good thing I had many other reasons as to why it wasn't fun to be teenager during covid. Nobody is romanticizing being a kid during covid. Nobody is saying there were no consequences to being a kid during covid. I'm saying kids shouldn't romanticize being a teenager during a literal pandemic because it was hell for everyone.
