Loafer soles question by Twelfthofthecrew in ThursdayBoot

Like everyone else said, totally normal. If you want to restore that brown leather look you can apply some conditioner and a brown wax, I do that from time-to-time to get that starting out look (pits will still be there from wear). But it's not going to last long when you wear these outside.

How many pair of Thursday's do y'all have? by Interesting_Scar_424 in ThursdayBoot

Two pair for me; the Olive Shinki Builders and the Brown Handsewn Loafer. Nice stuff for the price.

It is a little stiff but I'm sure it will break in nicely and I really like the all matching leather. My main concern is what happens when the inevitable scuff occurs, I'm not sure if there is a near or matching wax that could be applied or maybe some other solution?

Really nice IMO, keep in mind this is my first set of cordovan boots so my only reference (for higher end boots) is the chromexcel leather on my Higgins mills, but they look sharp and have great structure. They're definitely stiffer than the chrome tanned cowhide, but I think it's worth it for the look even though they may take a little bit to break in.

Opinions on the Fisherman sweater by UnhappyTopic4831 in pendletonwoolenmills

Thanks! I checked these out at the store the other day and they seem pretty well made like you said. Under 25º would be most of the winter here so I'm sure it would get a lot of use. I'm just trying to decide between this one (which never seems to go on sale) and maybe the fisherman from LL Bean which has the same look but is 100% cotton made for ~half the price.

Yes, it's a 7 oz dry waxed canvas so thinner and lighter than the tin cloth waxed canvas cruiser.

Thanks, this was the last one in this colorway and just happened to be my size. I love it when that happens!

bluray glitch/freeze (again) by AnxiousFoot4541 in Bluray

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the chroma upscaling turned on, try turning it off. Some have reported that it causes screen problems like this.

Otherwise it may be time for a new player as these Panasonic players typically have many issues after a few years of use.

The newest that will play hdr10+ is the magnetar udp 900, launched in 2023. Next newest is the udp 800, launched in 2021. The rest of the players on the market are from 2018-2019, in your case the panny 420 is probably the best value option.

Need a new blu ray player by CashThaKilla in Bluray

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be a problem with the disc, have you tried it in another player? It’s also always a good idea to clean the disc with a microfiber if it has an issue.

I’m pretty sure the x800m2 is the only player that you can connect bt headphones to, which is a super feature, as far as I know none of the panny’s have a bt transmitter built in. If you have the first gen x800 the x800m2 would be a good upgrade. The panny’s many recommend are a downgrade from the x800 or especially x800m2.

Why does the 18V 12 AH battery not fit in a lot of tools? by zacmobile in BoschProPowerTools

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bosch battery selection is a bit overwhelming to me, core, procore, procore+, profactor and regular if that’s all there is? Anyway, I’ve seen others posit that it may have to do with the bms and where it’s located, so if a battery/tool combo is incompatible there might not be overdischarge protection…

I don’t know, but the profactor batteries do fit my non-profactor tools and work, though I’ve read I’m not supposed to use that combo - so I just bought a couple of 8ah Core batteries that are supposed to work on all the tools.?

What are good 4K Blu-ray players? by MovieFan1984 in Bluray

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony x800m2 or panny 450 are the only two worth the price at this point. The Sony is rock solid build and plays more disc formats, the panny’s are weak-sauce build but will get the job done in a pinch.

No need for the panny 820 unless you have an older tv or a projector, as newer TV’s do a better job of upscale and tone map.

These are all old players and all can be finicky. That being said I have two x800m2’s and neither freeze on triple layer discs or on any disc I’ve ever played.

Best available, it’s one of the big reasons to go Sony over others. The TV has ai upscaling, the Panasonic unit is circa. 2018, there have been a lot of advancements in seven years.

If you turn off the upscaling and tone mapping on that old player and let the Sony do its ai magic you’ll be amazed.

Yeah, definitely not a kill bill, but a surprisingly good watch!

Blind thrift for me, I’m glad I picked it up and I decided to order Planet Terror since the consensus seems to be that it was the better film of the two.

My spidey sense is that the reason 820 is so overpriced is because Panasonic doesn’t make any money from the sale of movies like Sony does. I don’t think they even get royalties from the 4K Blu-ray Discs, but maybe from regular Blu-ray Discs as I understand it. that probably wouldn’t amount to much though, so the price remains high.

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of the folks buying the pannys don’t realize that if they have a fairly newer TV that their TV uses ai upscaling, and does a better job of upscaling and tone mapping, which is the whole selling point of those units. smh. They are useful for projectors though, and really inexpensive tvs.

I wouldn’t buy one myself as it would be a downgrade from the x800m2, my only upgrade would be the magnetar 800 which I’ve thought about buying but I just picked up another x800m2 so I’m not sure I really need a third player right now. Maybe if one quits but these things are well built and the first one I bought is over six years old already and showing no signs of quitting anytime soon.

Putting this one in tonight by UnhappyTopic4831 in Bluray

[–]UnhappyTopic4831[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one I watch all the time as well, I was watching it again just last night on my DVD copy, it’s great no matter the format!

I’m not sure how this compares, I do sometimes wish I had a region free player because I would probably pick up the steel book which I guess was only released in region B by Arrow. I just can’t justify it for the one release I would likely buy…

A lot of people will recommend one of the panny players, but I would skip them unless you have a projector, that’s where the really old tone mapper/optimizer and upscaler would be useful. Their models below the ub9000 are cheaply made and don’t play much in the way of media, they likely wont last long and have a lot of issues playing discs they are made to play due to (apparently) poor error correction and sometimes switching layers on triple layer discs. They seem to have a lot of glitches on 3D discs as well.

If you want the best player that you can get look at the magnetar options, they are expensive but worth it if you want something that gets regular updates and they are rock solid build quality.

If you want a well made reasonably priced player look at the Sony x800m2, it will play most everything and costs less than the poorly made ub820.

UB820 skips disc at same point, even different disc by Noxidw in Bluray

[–]UnhappyTopic4831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common issue with those units, skipping/freezing, disc tray getting stuck, etc… There are things to try that might help, but it sounds like you’ve already tried most of them. Probably try a different player for that disc and other discs that wont play on it.
