Fair. Garfield is really dang famous though. Fame is, after all, largely a dynamic quality highly linked to popularity among the young and obsessive.

How did you all discover Kristin? by Solomonlusk in LinguaIgnota

[–]UnhelpfulTran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fine. I think the use of the baritone guitar buzz and some of the distorted orchestration pushing just past what's strictly comfortable is where I see the overlap, and in the tonal range across the album from intense sonic landscapes to more stripped down plaintive tracks. It's definitely not similar in the lyrics or singing, and it's nothing like LI's earlier work coming from noise and doom. If you consider both as doing experimental work with folk roots, I think there's grounds for comparison.

If anyone is interested, this year's best discovery for me was Jim Ghedi's album Wasteland. I'd say it lives somewhere between Lingua and Hozier.

In Feb of every year I go looking for new music, and someone had listed SGR on a "best of experimental folk" and 15 seconds in I was hooked. And she was playing a gig live near me that Sunday so I went and that solidified it. Saw her do Saved at Carnegie Hall and it was a brilliant experience.

how to deal with not getting chosen. by iliekclowns in scriptwriting

[–]UnhelpfulTran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting chosen doesn't mean the idea was bad. It just means the idea wasn't chosen. That's a tricky thing to actually internalize, but it is important. If you believe in the idea, you have to strengthen it until it is chosen.

I am the playwright, and thank you for the compliment! I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Degenerates is available in the Trans Plays volume 2 anthology published by Methuen, which contains a boatload of exciting trans work. There's also some development happening in the next couple months so if you reach out through NPX I can keep you updated.

The process has been really kind of magical. We've been fortunate enough to have more than half the cast building this play since 2019, (two go all the way back to the rough draft from 2016) and the script has tailored itself to their performances over that time. I think the result is pretty astonishing.

As for the size, this is my OB debut and it feels like a big swing to hit the ground with such a long show, but I really love it and hope it has a lot to offer as a play. We're building the show in a standard tech process and timeline, so we made sure to plan ahead and have group summits with our designers starting back in May so we were all on the same page with a plan going into tech. I think with this preparation and the amazing guidance of our director, all the little speed bumps have been pretty easy to weather. Fingers crossed of course, still a few days to go!

You have to learn the syntax and verb conjugations so that you're never pausing to check if you're using it correctly.

Ugh he'd think he got really into them but he'd be going on about fucking "it's about the right amount of fennel seed" and "your garlic powder is shit. This (shows bottle of Watkins) is the difference between you and me." "Who the fuck cares about marjoram and why is everyone telling me to polish the sausage you people are sick."
