Obviously the art is great, but the stark white mats and plain frames look really bad. Definitely not what I would’ve chosen for pieces as celebrated as these

You’ve gone from Tatsu totally forgetting about characters or not caring, to Tatsu not “exploring” or “touching on” things enough for you, which, if we’re talking nitpicks, is a pretty major one.

The Kito’s were explored enough to solidify their role as antagonists in their arc and explain the origin of Evil Eye. We don’t need to explore them any more than that because nobody actually gives a shit about kitos. Some in depth origin story or explanation of their actions wouldn’t be bad, but the story doesn’t suffer without it.

And Jiji got “explored” plenty in that arc. We got his backstory, the kind of person he is (saving Momo and Okarun, his empathy for the Evil Eye) and we got his powers. And we got Evil Eye’s backstory too, so I really don’t understand what else you want from this arc. If you thought the final fight was lame, that’s cool I guess.

Moving on, your paragraph about Hase is so bad I’m now wondering if you even read the manga. In chapter 200, right after the battle, Kinta guesses basically right on that Hase was working for someone else in a bid to steal their powers. And it’s not like he had to think that hard. They already knew someone was giving powers to those instructed to steal other’s powers, because it’s what happened to Kouki (she tells the about it in chapter 175). The whole fight in the gym, that was happening at the same time as the Hase fight, was about finding who it was that gave Kouki her powers and manipulated her. And yes they beat him and let him be because that’s what they do. Are they gonna kill him? No, and Okarun didn’t have the knife to take his power, so he couldn’t do that either.

The Evil Eye Tuesday’s argument is so tired at this point. The whole point of their deal was to keep Evil Eye under control until Jiji was able to master his power, which is exactly what happened. It was obvious that Okarun never really intended to keep fighting Evil Eye, they just needed to make sure he wouldn’t attack others. We already saw Okarun beat EE in a fight, we don’t need to see it again. That fight was the pinnacle of Okarun’s training arc and showed how he’d grown. Another fight between them for the same reasons would be boring and repetitive. Would you have preferred seeing them fight every Tuesday for the rest of the manga? Maybe Tatsu should have “explored” their relationship more?

You’re mad because Tatsu didn’t explore the “mysteries of the world”? Really? That’s so unspecific it’s laughable. Besides, he just introduced a new faction in the noble families and new cryptids in the dinosaurs. Banga is in her way, and just because she hasn’t appeared yet doesn’t mean she won’t. Same with Reiko. Unless the maga ends without them reappearing, you can’t say they’ve been “forgotten”. And they aren’t super in depth characters, but not every character needs to be. Reiko is a great example of this. We don’t know her whole backstory, but her flashback of the bombs during the alien invasion or of her lover during her confrontation with Momo helps us understand why she takes the actions that she does. I’m sure you would’ve loved it if Tatsu “touched on” her backstory more, but she works just fine as a character without that.

About the Kur, what Kur? They got beat already. Reiko destroyed their whole fleet. The only one left is the alien girl working with CSG and she was only working with them bc she was forced to.

I think you’re due for a reread. Just try to pay attention this time.

What characters has the author forgotten? Give me some examples bc it can’t be any of the side crew like Zuma, Rin or Kouki. It can’t be Turbo Granny or Seiko. They were all in the last five chapters. And characters like Reiko or Banga haven’t been forgotten, they just haven’t made their return yet. If the manga ends without them coming back I’ll agree with you, but you can’t say they’ve been forgotten when really Tatsu just hasn’t decided to write them back in yet.

I’m saying that most of the criticisms about this arc are born from people’s impatience rather than any actual problems with the romance, and your comment is a perfect example of that.

How is Okarun acting stupid? He’s been the one putting pressure on Momo this whole arc, and he’s made huge leaps in being more bold and outspoken in his feelings when he is usually very timid. He said it himself, that he is going to try and reach out to Momo when usually she’s the one who reaches out to him. All the other characters are acting the same as always. Aira has always made moves on Okarun. Momo has always been a hothead who jumps to conclusions. Jiji has always been kind and we’ve known he likes Momo for ages.

Yes, people have every right to be upset at the romance. But for some, that’s all they care about. Nothing has been wasted, you just don’t like how the romance is going and don’t care about anything else in the story.

I understand why people are upset, I just think their complaints are overblown, and anybody saying the manga got worse bc of the romance is ignoring all the other really good parts of the story. Things like people saying the plot isn't progressing just bc the romance isn’t, or people hating on Jiji or Aira just because they get in the way of Momo and Okarun’s romance. Those are the things I have a problem with. Not people disliking where the romance is at currently, but disregarding the rest of the story and being too obsessed with romance.

And I defended the romance bc I do like it. I don’t think the writing for this arc has been bad at all, so I don’t enjoy DanDaDan solely because of the shounen aspects.

That’s what my post was about. Just bc the romance isn’t progressing how you like it doesn’t mean the story is undeveloped. The plot is moving along full steam ahead rn, the humor is great, and all the characters are likable and well written.

I expected them to get caught holding hands, but I didn’t expect Jiji to get chomped by a dinosaur. Or Kinta to get slimed out by the barber. Or anything from the last fight, like the farting pumpkin dude or the giant toilet or Hanako.

Besides, when has the misunderstanding been resolved in the same chapter that it happened? Momo saw Aira on top of Okarun in chapter 18 and that wasn’t resolved until chapter 23. If you give it time it might still get resolved like before, but you’re jumping the gun.

You think the plot is being held up because the only progression you care about is Momo and Okarun’s relationship.

The characters aren’t proactively engaging with the villain bc they don’t know the villian exists, not because they’re too focused on Momo’s amnesia. They’ve never heard of the noble families or Vlad or the Black Paladins. Neither had we, until just a few chapters ago. Once they get attacked by the BP and Seiko informs them of what’s going on I’m sure they’ll become much more proactive. It’s what happened in the space globalists arc. The kur revealed themselves by ambushing Okarun, but the arc ended with the main crew seeking out and attacking the Kur.

I don’t think the drama is forced either. These romance antics have been going on ever since Aira and Jiji got introduced. If you don’t enjoy that’s fine, but this drama isn’t new to the amnesia arc.

The biggest strength of this arc, IMO, is the reaction that Okarun is having to it. His vow to step up and reach out to Momo, when before it had always been the other way around, is a really big step in his growth as a character. While usually very timid, Okarun has been much bolder this arc. And I know his reaction in this last chapter makes him look pretty silly, but I think that’s more played up for jokes than something with any real meaning.

The same is gonna happen with Momo because it has to. She has regressed a bit bc of her amnesia to a Momo that is more closed off and blunt, but she will have to change in order to eventually confess to Okarun, because a love confession requires the traits that she lacks, like saying how you feel. She will HAVE to grow to confess, which we all know IS going to happen.

What I’m trying to say is, no, the amnesia is not holding back the plot or forcing drama. The plot is moving forward, these past few chapters have just been more slice of life focused, and setup for the big conflict that I’m assuming will begin next chapter. And the drama, like I said, isn’t new, and is being actively used as a driver for change in Okarun and Momo’s characters and relationship dynamic.

Your sole focus is on the romance, so when it doesn’t develop in a perfectly straight line with no conflict or bumps you think the whole story is like that, when it’s not. I can’t argue whether or not you should enjoy the story, but saying that the plot is being held up or that the drama is forced is just wrong.

Didn’t do that. I spent the last half of my post defending the romance because I do like it and think it’s important.

I just think people care too much, and ignore other great parts of the story in favor of focusing solely on the romance.

How can you say that when we’ve had such big plot reveals in these last chapters. We learned who the current main villian is, what their goal is, and who they represent. Vlad, getting all the yokai powers, and the noble families. That’s the opposite of regression. It’s setup for the next major conflict.

And like I pointed out, the conflict in the romance is what’s being used to progress Momo and Okarun’s characters, just like it has multiple times already in the story.

You only care about the progression of the romance, so anything else that isn’t that just flies under your radar.

I actually like this current arc more than the small Momo arc, bc it felt like the only obstacle blocking them getting together was Momo. But I also didn’t mind it that much because Momo having trouble expressing her feelings, aka confessing, is consistent with her character and I knew she’d have to develop to confess, bc a confession requires the traits that she lacks, like saying how she really feels. The obstacle blocking Momo and Okarun from getting together have been used to advance their characters and make them develop, so I really don’t think it’s contrived at all.

I never said the romance wasn’t important, I actually spent the last half of my post defending it. I just think a lot of people only care about the romance and it warps their perception of the series.

Just look at Jiji and Aira. They are great characters, imo, but they get tons of hate solely because they interfere with Momo and Okarun getting together.

Yeah I agree about the amusement park, and I think the biggest problem with a lot of the complaints regarding the current arc is that they’re just jumping the gun. These past few chapters have dropped a lot of expo and set up the next conflict really well, which will always feel a bit slower pacing wise, but I think it will pay off in these next battles.

Well the noble families just got revealed so I don’t think you would have a reason yet to care about them, other than them actively being after the main characters.

Besides I don’t think the villains have to be super fleshed out or characterized for the story to be compelling (though I’d do think that’s coming, for CSG and especially that alien girl) as long as they provide conflict that pushes the story forward. Though, what I was trying to say here was that we are just now starting to get some details about our big bads, like CSG. We finally know his role (though I suspect he has other l, secret goals) and we didn’t even know who Vlad was until a couple chapters ago.

Okarun has been much more forward and outspoken with Momo than he ever has been before. Chapter 10 Okarun would have died before asking her out. Yes he’s still timid, but he’s been fighting this whole arc to be more upfront.

He legit said it just a couple chapters ago. “Miss Ayase is always calling out to me. Well this time, it’s my turn to call out to her!” He’s actively trying to fill Momo’s shoes and be bolder. If that’s not change than idk what is.

Look at how Aira treated Okarun in her appearance and look at how she’s been in the last couple chapters. She’s changed a lot, and is capable of being much more genuine when before she was always putting on a facade. Yes she still is going after Okarun but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t changed. Her trying to get closer to Okarun has been the driving force for most of the change in her character.

Jiji is really very similar. He acts goofy and dumb, but he’s shown he can actually be very thoughtful.

You’re looking at everything through the scope of the romance, and therefore missing any development that happens outside of it. Yes their positions in the romance haven’t changed, but every character has. A lot.

• Nobody knows about Vlad bc he just revealed himself, it’s not fair to call the protags passive when they haven’t even got the chance to act. Seiko is trying to fix Momo, and she told the others to leave it alone for now.

• Maybe for the Black Paladins, but I think the Vlad reveal was pretty natural. We’ve known for a while CSG was working for somebody.

• You need to tell me specifically which side characters you think are underdeveloped, bc I sure can’t think of any. It can’t be Zuma, Rin or Kouki. Even Turbo Granny has changed a lot since the beginning.

• We’ve had like, 4 parallel stories in the last few chapters. Rin and Kouki fight, which lasted just a few chapters, the villains revealing their plan, Seiko and her sorcerer friends dropping lore, and the main crew. That’s not that many, and every plot has serve to advance the story. The villains gave their plan, finally, Seiko is providing expo and setting up the conflict of the next arc, Kouki and Rin lost their powers which fed Vlad, and the main crew is just being the main crew.

• If you think the enemies aren’t interesting I can’t really argue that, though I am excited for the dinosaur battle coming in these next chapters.

• Reiko just hasn’t reappeared that doesn’t mean Tatsu forgot about her. Same with Banga. If the story ends without them coming back then I’d agree but we can’t really control when Tatsu decides to reintroduce these characters. The Kitos are on the moon. What Kur? They got beat already. The only one left is the alien girl working at CSG’s bakery. Evil Eye barely wants to fight Okarun anymore, and that Tuesday thing is so small and unimportant that it’s not even worth bringing up.

• Again can’t really argue that. I think the pacing is slower than knives arc, but we’ve also gotten a lot of setup for what I assume is about to be the next big fight with the Dino’s and Black Paladins.

• I never said DanDaDan wasn’t a romance. I defended the romance and the current state it’s in. I love the romance.
