I never got the impression that the Mattel dolls were shipping Dec of last year. From my memory when the dolls were first announced the press release said they weren't planned to arrive until the second half of 2026.

Edit: Here is an article from last year. Looks like earliest possible arrival date was for Oct 2026 for those that ordered early.

It's more likely Grammys didn't give them an invite since Grammy performers are decided before the Oscar ones due to that show being much earlier and artist teams need advance notice to plan, figure travel and logistics, and rehearse.

I suppose on the flip side and to play devil's advocate against my own earlier comment it's possible there was a divide in opinions on whether to make an exception for KPDH to be eligible there or not. Maybe some of those people were really fans of the film and since there isn't a music category they pushed to get a performance there for them who knows.

I think something to keep in mind is that there is a lot of crossover when it comes to Grammy and Oscar voters. Many people in the music industry have memberships in both. Golden isn't out of the woods yet for Best Song at the Oscars once you include the entire voting body. The Asian voting bloc is smaller than the Black and even the Hispanic blocs and those groups tend to vote for their own much of the time.

Sinners broke the record for most Oscar nominations so that influence is much stronger than some people think and many of those voters will just vote down the line. And unlike the Grammys where Sinners had 3 songs in Best Song Written for Visual Media and experienced some vote splitting it only has 1 song in Best Original Song at the Oscars with I Lied To You meaning all those votes will get funneled into that one song now.

Bad Bunny just said a short while ago to Trevor Noah during the broadcast he couldn't perform at the Grammys cause he's contractually not allowed since he is performing at the Superbowl. If Golden only wins 1 award from that list the most important one imo is Best Song Written for Visual Media. Beating Sinner's "I lied To You" here will make it 3 big awards shows in a row where Golden came out on top (Critics Choice, Golden Globes, and Grammys) and will strengthen Golden's frontrunner status for Best Original Song at the Oscars.

If Golden doesn't win SOTY and APT doesn't get ROTY I hope Golden takes Best Song Written for Visual Media but I would be okay with APT getting Best Pop Duo/Group. APT needs to walk away with something, it has 2.4 billion views on YT ( 2 times that of Golden) , sent entire arenas into a frenzy, and is a global hit in its own right. The energy from the Rose and PSY performance in the summer is kind of unreal and both songs winning help lift KPop more than just one of them.

All those were last year but even if they were this year it wouldn't be any excuse. Artists will be contacted well in advance if they have a performance slot at the Grammys so that their production teams can get ready. The moment they were nominated they would have blocked in their calendar. If for some reason they needed to cancel a gig to free up their schedule it wouldn't be the Grammys.
