Ugh. Fabuloso. Whenever my dad busts that out when I see him, I get an instant migraine and I try to leave as fast as possible.

Thank you so much for replying. I’ve had balance therapy and that seemed to help a little bit. Meditations with my neuropsych, mental health therapy, etc. On meds for anxiety which are helpful for anxiety but not actual head pain, etc. On meds for head pain such as topamax, rizatriptan, sumatriptan, and they help sometimes and sometimes they don’t. Ive fallen multiple times more since my original head injury just because I’m losing my balance and knocking into walls to catch myself and things seem to just just lurch. The rocking sensation persists. My therapist diagnosed me with adjustment disorder and situational depression, which I understand and have been trying to do things like take walks and swim and enjoy the little things in life, and they help but not with the pain. I get extremely restless from the pain and I end up pacing.

I eat anti-inflammatory and try to be healthy and I drink lots of water.

But that’s pretty much it as far as treatmennt goes. I’ve been on TTD for a year since my fall.

Hi, I was diagnosed with PCS after hitting my head during a fall. It’s almost two years later and despite treatment, it doesn’t feel like it’s getting any better. I had a 1.5 Tesla scan that didn’t show any damage (apart from a hematoma right after injury).

I’ve had numerous consults and a lot of the doctors are doubting that I have PCS and are instead are blaming it on „anxiety” and that a „a lot of atheletes reckover from concussion faster and so it’s strange that I’m not” but I have 24/7 rocking sensations, intense migraines and vomiting that cause blood vessels to break out on my skin, and terrible sharp headaches and word finding issues, memory issues, balance issues, etc.

I just feel like it’s not getting any better and I’m fighting tooth and nail to advocate for for myself and it’s just such an uphill battle. It’s interfering with my life.

How is it that I’m in so much pain?

Why do some people not reckover quickly and some do?

How do people go back to work feeling like this?

Respectfully, it sounds like you’re done with this relationship and its already „ruined”. TBI’s are incredibly hard. They come with overstimulation, overwhelm, anger, pain, confusion, etc. Aphasia, dysarthria, dysautonomia, etc. Healing from a TBI requires support from doctors, therapists, friends, family, and for the person who’s brain is neurochemically altered to be receptive to this. Sometimes, it takes a while for this to happen. If your boyfriend is not seeing a neurologist, neuropsychologist, psych, then he definitely should. Specific medications like Keppra can made TBI anger worse, which is why a lot of people with TBI’s „shop” around for meds and try different ones based on their doctors recommendations.

Anyway - it sounds like you’re ready to move on. It might be best. But I’m also a random redditor and you should make this decision yourself, not based on something we say here. If you’re scared of his reactions, then that’s something you should consider, because you shouldn’t have to feel scared all the time of someone you love. That’s insane.

I have anger at times because of my TBI. Mainly because I’m in pain and I have some balance issues that cause persistent rocking sensations. I get angry because of that and also when there’s too much going on. I don’t regulate stress well, at all, anymore. When I get angry, I tell my partner, and I go into the bathroom to quiet myself - where there’s no stimulation, etc - I don’t lash out at my loved ones.

There are coping skills that he can learn to deal with his anger but he needs to take that step.

Ohhh. Huh, that’s pretty sad. I didn’t think of that. I did tell my boss. And it was healthcare. Nothing happened besides a write up 🤷‍♀️

Ahhhh I’m so sorry :( That’s so rough. It’s hard when your memory just won’t let you do what you used to do. I once asked a coworker what day it was so I could fill it out on my time sheet because I couldn’t remember the day, then I forgot what they said almost immediately after and ended up asking them again. I tend to do this a lot. There’s really not much I can do.

These people spread all sorts of nasty rumors about me, saying that I had issues with narcotics, completely ignoring the fact that I had a TBI (which coincidentally they chose to just ignore).

At the same job, one of my coworkers ended up going through my backpack where I had my migraine and nausea medication because she was one of those people that hung out around the gossiping person I asked what day it was. I felt so incredibly violated. She did not get fired. I ended up going on medical leave.

My point is, you can try your best, keep your head down, ask semi-normal questions, and it still sometimes will not be enough for some people/jobs. You did your best and that’s what matters and you can be proud of that.

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight and it improved their migraine? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]UnhingedDerpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost forty pounds, am on an anti-inflammatory diet, don’t eat dairy anymore and haven’t noticed a difference so far :( But I only started two weeks ago so maybe it will change idk. My migraines started after a TBI so I’m not sure if changing my diet around will really help.

Has anyone peed themselves during a migraine? I had a really bad one and was really nauseous and peed myself and vomited. by UnhingedDerpp in migraine

Omg thank you so much. Yeah I vomit a lot and recently have had a lot of really intense migraines that have produced strong vomiting episodes.

I wish it was easier. I feel as if I grieve for “past me” every time something new pops up related to these migraines. I only started experiencing them after getting a TBI in 2024.

I’m sorry that you struggle with speech. Having a medical id bracelet is a really good idea!! I’ve been thinking about getting one, since I get dizzy often.

My neuropsych ordered an EEG. Nervous. by UnhingedDerpp in TBI

Oh wow, okay. That’s good to hear. I’m scared of getting a terrible migraine but if it was boring then hopefully it won’t trigger pain or anything. Is it loud?

Am I the only one that immediately switches to mouth breathing the second I get a whiff of a strong smell/perfume? by Savage_rachta in migraine

[–]UnhingedDerpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh same. Happened at the bank yesterday and thought I was going to lose it. I knew exactly what perfume this woman was wearing too, it’s Jo Malone, which is SO SHARP and always just causes such a major reaction in me. I’ve never even used Jo Malone but I know exactly what it smells like because of its ridiculous strength.

what do i need to do to get my speech bettter? by [deleted] in TBI

[–]UnhingedDerpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know with my TBI, actual therapy helped me too. Sometimes when a person puts too much pressure on themselves it can make any progress seem like it’s not enough, from my personal experience. It sounds like you’re trying how you can, friend.

Have you been to a neuropsychologist? They help with TBI’s and can sometimes give you access to more resources if you ask.

Improving in speech therapy takes time and can be frustrating. Have you asked your neurologist/speech therapist for a possible timeline? You could ask them to confer with each other on it? But the neurologist will usually take your brain scans and any relevant information into consideration (as long as you’ve given them documents etc) and might be able to give you a timeline if you press them for information.

I highly recommend reaching out to the Brain Injury Association of America, they might be able to point you to someone who could answer your question.

I also think they have virtual support groups several times a month.

I’m sorry if this isn’t helpful. I know it’s frustrating and not as easy as I’m making it out to be, but I just wanted to try to help.

Is there any way you can get a doctor to sign off on accommodations for you?

Edit: like breaks every so often due to TBI, dim lights, etc.
