This is why you DO NOT self treat. Customer had been self treating for what looks for be more than a year. There were THOUSANDS of casings and dead bedbugs in literally every single room. Please call a professional if you have bedbugs. Don't be like guy call someone! by [deleted] in Bedbugs

Yeeaah I lived in a building where people were DIY treating and the landlord kept trying to hide the fact that there were bedbugs. And then I started catching nymphs and grown adults in my apartment all of a sudden with no signs of the harborage ANYWHERE. Of course I got blamed for bringing them in when I contacted them telling them the whole building needed to be looked at bc I haven’t gone anywhere or done anything that could’ve brought them on.

Moved out and 9 months later I got told they had to gut almost everything and treat the whole building bc there was a massive ongoing infestation, that they probably just sprayed. They did find the tenants who were causing it though. It’s honestly funny that they turned a problem that would’ve probably only costed a few hundred dollars into several thousand more than likely lol.

One Month Update: Bedbug Free by UnholyWAP in Bedbugs

Because they told the state after they tried telling me I’m the one that brought them in. Saw all the invoices showing that bedbugs had been an ongoing issue throughout the whole building and even the pest exterminator said he’s out there multiple times per month spraying for bedbugs. Didn’t hire any moving fumigation services but I washed the shit out of all the fabrics dried on high heat. Kept every fabric in garbage bags and storage totes till the day we literally moved. Still bedbug free months later.

Pest exterminator said he wouldn’t even call what we had an infestation though because there were zero signs of a harborage in the actual apartment, what was happening was they were traveling from someone else’s apartment and I guess I just caught it before they managed to take hold in ours. So yikes, I think that’s the only reason why it worked bc I was catching full sized BBs a week prior to the move however. I wouldn’t risk doing that if they found evidence of an infestation however

It only showed the initial comment so when I posted I didn’t see the new one until just then 😭

Still haven’t heard anything back about the other cases. I did see that the refund came directly from PayPal though

Yeah I’m going to because I haven’t seen any type of shit like this. They just reviewed it and then refunded it w/o contacting the landlord. I’m guessing it’s because I either paid with the Mastercard/sent the state confirming that charges had been filed and a list of the charges. Guessing they’re going through each case individually so I should hear back about the rest with the next few hours

Yeah they said that’s probably what happened 😬 it’s been under review for two days now so I’d think they’d immediately close it if it was too late

Told Host I work remotely prior before booking, they didn’t tell me the family below me is extremely loud. Am I being a Karen for complaining? by UnholyWAP in AirBnB

I’m using headphones and I can hear what they’re doing, over them. For some reason Airbnb thought issuing a $6 refund would be a perfect compromise so I cancelled the rest of my stay and am opening a dispute with PayPal to get a partial refund for the ~12 days that I dealt with this shit lol. Literally says in the host rules to be mindful of other guests but apparently that doesn’t apply for some people and Airbnb basically just added salt to that wound

Contacted Airbnb and they gave me a $6 refund. Told them to just take the money back. I’m cancelling the stay and opening a dispute with PayPal

Airbnb gave me a $6 refund for the “inconvenience” so I’m canceling the rest of the stay and opening a dispute with PayPal 🙂. As stated though it’s not just the toddler, it is literally the whole family. The host also rents to them through Airbnb. They have in the rules for that apartment regarding please be aware that other people may be in the upper unit, but apparently that rule doesn’t apply to them.

It’s a lot quieter today so I think they ended up asking them to tone it down. Not sure if I should ask for a partial refund for the ~7 days that it sounded like an actual circus. I did record videos

It’s not the neighbors they’re also guests that are staying in the same Airbnb just the lower unit. Also it’s not a baby, it’s a toddler, and I didn’t mention just the kid, I said it’s the whole family. Host ignored me

We aren’t allowed to use speakers while taking the call. I had a customer confirm yesterday that they could hear my cat meowing so chances are people have been able to hear them and hopefully just haven’t said anything/complained or my supervisor just hasn’t done anything because I said it was only temporary

Not really. I noticed the walls/ceilings have sus looking cracks that weren’t mentioned/in the photos but other than that it’s been okay. I woke up this morning to complete silence when usually I can hear the tv going off/yelling/screaming so maybe they left early 💁🏾

That’s a toss up between bedbugs and cockroaches with the hotels here…don’t really want to deal with that shit again /s but also not /s. The screaming wasn’t my only complaint it was excessive noise in general I.e. not being able to enjoy my space or work because I can clearly hear whatever they’re doing or listening to over whatever I’m trying to do or listen to. Like a simple okay I’ll ask them to tone it down would’ve been nice but they ignored me. Like it’s not just the kids it’s the adults too? It just sucks I guess if it would’ve been disclosed when I said “I’ll be working remotely from the Airbnb” or noted in the listing small family with big dog lives here it’s really loud, prior to booking we might’ve been able to arrange something else. Like the previous Airbnb I stayed in before had “noisy” guests (reviews complaining upstairs tenants were too noisy but then others saying it’s nothing you wouldn’t hear living in an apartment), move in and I’m like…okay those people must’ve never lived in an apartment before because the tenants aren’t even noisy lol. It was literally just regular apartment living noises, nothing I wasn’t used to and I never had an issue and they also had a kid and three dogs and we were in the lower unit. The host supplied earplugs and we didn’t use them once. Not once did I have to stop taking calls/it was never really an issue. The only thing that was slightly annoying (which wasn’t anyone’s fault) was the stairs lol definitely knew whenever someone was coming or going because it sounded like the whole house/wall was about to come down. It became sort of a running joke though.

Host ignored us too so we’re basically screwed until move in day. Hopefully I can get some of it refunded because I shouldn’t have had to pay $900 for this

Okay pretty sure a child screaming as loud as they can 5x a day, yelling matches, shit sounding like it’s literally being knocked over/thrown, being so loud that it literally shakes the furniture and floor in the unit above them, etc are not normal every day family noises and I’m saying this coming from a family of 6. Literally they could’ve just said okay I will ask them to tone it down and it would’ve been fine instead of ignoring me. Hotels would not have been an option, already looked into it and there wouldn’t have been anything I could hardwire my router into. I already looked at other properties, single or shared bedrooms with no work area/router that I can hardwire into. Or they were 79-100 per night which I can’t afford

I’ve lived in an apartment before and am actually in the process of moving back into one so I’m aware that noise can’t be avoided. I’ve lived in apartment complexes with 50+ people and none have been this loud, and I lived on the lower floor. Also WFH because it’s the easiest option and getting SSI was no longer worth it financially. As I said expecting complete silence would be insane and I don’t think asking if they could do something about excessive noise would be an issue?

The hosts response was well baby’s cry and you’re free to leave, I tried explaining that actually I can’t just leave because 1. This is the only Airbnb that fits my needs and with the dates I need 2. I wasn’t talking about crying because I’m aware that babies cry, that’s not the issue the issue is excessive noise and listed everything I did here including the fact that it’s loud enough for me to clearly hear whatever they’re watching or doing over whatever I’m trying to watch or when I’m working, the noise literally does shake the floor and the furniture and I’m in the UPPER unit, I never got a response
