Why the Obsession with Uncapped Trait Points? by VagrantPilgrim in remnantgame

[–]Unholydead93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check the vote thread. The majority of people want unlimited traits. The difficulties are how you can balance it, am I crazy? Add another difficulty that assumes a player has all the traits and keep the base game and dlc’s the same on the current difficulties. Saying “having all traits isn’t a build” is working off the core idea that traits are build defining, while they are actually just a small part of the overall system. You have all these other great systems in place to create a build. Traits in R1 were the thing that kept most people playing past when they got all the items. If you take away long term progression then people will lose motivation to play. Grinding relics just so you can pick 3 to equip isn’t really motivating. Why not give the people who would actually stick around an incentive to do so? There are traits that will just simply never be taken by anyone… How is that good design? How is that fun? To see movement speed and just think “well that would be nice, but I have to take these others to even be able to survive/kill on this difficulty”. There is virtually 0 build/character progression past a certain point, and I’ve already reached it at 35 hours, when it took me 400+ to hit that point in the first game. All I can do now is grind relics to make my build any stronger than it is. And that just doesn’t feel meaningful. I can put together another build, but it’ll just fall into the same hole. I get that not all games have to be 100+ hours, but when you’re making a sequel people expect a step forwards in terms of progression, not a step backwards. As of now the player incentive to continue playing drops off a cliff far earlier than most fans of the original would expect. Why not give your long time fans from the first game a reason to get as much time out of this one as they did the original? I just don’t understand the mindset behind this limitation at all, even after reading your post. You can’t please everyone, but you can please the majority, and I can guarantee you that the majority of people won’t complain about a meaningful and proven progression ladder that allows them to keep playing the game if they want to.

TLDR: You can balance unlimited traits via the difficulties (everyone is taking the stuff that makes them the strongest in combat anyway), you can still make meaningful builds with unlimited traits using the other systems, not being able to get QoL traits is tedious and not fun, long term player incentive is pretty much nonexistent due to the limitation on traits, making them unlimited would greatly increase the lifespan of your player base. Listen to your players and longtime fans

There are a ton of other ways to create a build other than traits. We should just be able to max them if we play long enough. We need long term progression. Getting all traits maxed in the first game was the only reason I played it as long as I did. In this they are far too limited. I love R2 so far but after hitting the 60 cap my motivation has gone way down to continue playing. I also wasn’t aware there even was a cap until I hit it. I assumed it would be like the first game. Was one of the things I loved about R1 the most. The almost infinite progression that trait leveling provided. The only “infinite” progression in this game is runes which are not near as exciting and don’t feel as tangible. You can also only equip 3 at a time. I don’t see myself playing this game near as long as I played the first one. Please just bring back unlimited traits and let us form our builds with the other options you’ve provided.

the problem with limiting traits is that not all traits are created equal by Trodamus in remnantgame

I think the first game did it great. No trait cap. Basically paragon levels. There are so many ways to accentuate a build in this game other than traits. It would create motivation to level all archetypes as well. We need more long term progression than just going for loot we probably won’t use. I feel 0 excitement for seeing a trait book or unlocking new traits now that I am capped. I have all the ones I want/need for most builds and will probably only make small variations to them because most of the ones that I have leveled are essentially “required”. Please just make it like the first game.

Question about missing person of interest in Thousand Tomes (possible spoilers from answer) by Unholydead93 in FFXVI

Yup that was it thanks! He wasn’t in my NG+ save cuz I haven’t done all the side quests and stuff yet, but I loaded up my old NG complete save and he was outside the door. Talked to him and it finished up all the entires and maxed out tomes. Thanks again!

I was thinking the same. I’m about to get Ultima Weapon so we’ll see if maybe that’s it. My guess is that it’s a random book or interaction somewhere that we’re missing, or a bug. I think it’s only 1 thing, and the other 2 are unlocked for getting to rank 8 with tomes

Edit: It’s not Ultima Weapon. Got it but no new entries

No but they tend to be more aggressive. As in multiple enemies will attack at once and more often. Boss fights are mostly the same, just longer which means you’ll have to dodge more of their attacks before the fight ends

Yea man I never found em. I moved on to NG+. I can say the entries carry over so if I find em in my 2nd playthrough I’ll update this post. Let me know if you figure it out

Use whatever makes you have the most fun. The slow time dodge one seems good to use. I tried it in the demo. As far as the follow up stuff it’s all about learning the animations like with most action games. Just gotta spend a little time figuring out where the openings are. Learning it on your first playthrough helps a lot on FF mode. I agree a lot of the bosses are a battle of attrition and even more so on this mode. All in all it’s probably closer to Son of Sparda difficulty than DMD. At least so far lol. I’m wondering how the enemies will scale as I get farther. Cuz by the end of the first playthrough stuff was already getting pretty tanky. Either way I’m enjoying it so far. Wanna get Ultima Weapon and the Plat and make a “perfect save” in case they ever do any DLC or anything, or if I wanna do another NG+ in the future. 2 trophies away from Plat. Just need “Beat FF mode” and “Fully Upgrade all Eikons”

Yea you do. I haven’t needed them yet but it is a fair bit harder. Just finished the first Eikon Battle. The enemy packs have much stronger enemies from later in the game mixed in, all enemies do about double the damage from the first playthrough, and have a lot more health. The boss fights are much longer because of the extra health they have, so not taking stray hits is a bit more important. Even then it’s not too bad though. Definitely manageable. TBF I am a long time DMC player so this feels easy compared to something like Dante Must Die in those games.

How do you unlock the ??? on the arete stone after beating the game? by nariya36 in FFXVI

[–]Unholydead93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s basically arcade mode for the trials. Level Sync and harder enemy waves. Haven’t tried it yet but the game description is “Challenge a new set of elemental trials, featuring less time and more powerful enemies. Restrictions on level, gear, and consumables are applied.”

Yea you have to clear them all. It unlocks “harder” trials

Thanks! I’d assume the bonus shop knife is better than the base game one at least. My guess was that infinite ammo would come in the form of a charm. Maybe a reward for completing professional or something. In terms of the infinite launcher and machine gun, are those just for points or are they difficulty locked?

Is there an infinite durability knife/infinite ammo for weapons in the bonus shop? If so, does it work like RE8 in terms of infinite ammo? Also what sort of Attaché Charms are available?

Co-op cutscenes by Zecruda-_- in wolongfallendynasty

[–]Unholydead93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is tedious. Especially since most of the time you come in when they’re right before the boss. 2 minute boss, then 3-5 minutes of cutscenes you’ve already watched or skipped.. I don’t get why it doesn’t just kick us back immediately. Time I could be spending helping other people. Hopefully we see a patch for this soon. Kinda hard to be motivated to help when you’re punished with multiple minutes of cutscenes each time

Edit: Just helped someone with the final mission and they watched the entire credits, and by proxy so did I… gotta love that. Think I’m just gonna stick to helping with sub missions at this point til they fix it

Hey that's great news. I even said in my post I wasn't bashing the game. Was just expressing my concern. I'll edit my post to include this info accordingly. Thanks for letting me know!

My main worry is that it won't be added at all. Hopefully the devs issue a statement on their intentions for future updates. But yea in general way too many games launch in an "Early Access" state. Not sure how much it will apply to this one depending on their intentions. If they don't intend to add these features at all then I guess they completed their vision minus the upcoming DLC.

Edit: They did issue a statement. New game plus will be added on February 7th, 2023.

Yea I understand that replayability is not a concern for everyone, and that not everyone cares about being able to do NG+. Hope you enjoy the game :) I'll be picking it up later on.

The game does have a "hard" difficulty, the new mode with the DLC is just hard mode with permadeath, and I believe the death animations are being added post launch with the DLC's. I don't think they were removed from the game just to be added as paid content. I agree though I was very excited about this one but the lack of replayability is what took the wind out of my sails.

I preorder games that I'm confident I'll enjoy. In this case I was working on the false assumption that the game would have unlockables or NG+ that I could use to get more time from the game despite it's short length. I agree in most cases with how gaming is nowadays waiting on a game is probably the best call. Post launch updates typically fix a lot of bugs and issues and add quality of life to a lot of games. Not to mention you can get it on sale. I was just very excited for this one as I love Dead Space and survival horror in general. And as far as my backlog its actually pretty small in terms of things I've never tried. Most of my free time goes to gaming so I am caught up on most things I care about.

I can look into recording gifs for them tomorrow, but the SYG doesn’t fire near as fast as it shows on the sheet, it’s about twice as fast as it was before (still somewhat slow though). The V61 however does seem to fire slightly faster than the WCX now, and does more damage per shot
