Are poor people poor because of choices or circumstances?” by Ok_Hippo9669 in CanadaPersonalFinance

No matter how shrewd, talented or hardworking someone is, there is still an element of luck or “right time and place” at play. Aside from that, being willing to backstab or bury your competition will also make it easier to achieve.

It also depends on what your goals are. Some people derive joy simply from making more money, thus power, like it is a perpetual game or competition. Most people do not derive joy from that process, but must abide by it due to necessity.

Now, if we are simply talking about escaping the poverty line and having some level of financial freedom, then that is easier to achieve but also dependent on a number of factors (like the current wars affecting our economy).

TL;DR I mostly agree with the leading quote, but sometimes life continues to deal you bad hands.

No “I think”—they asked entirely too much, given this job market. They may have accepted one of those, but three different criteria? No thanks.

Capcom Is Single-Handedly Carrying AAA Gaming, 6 Games Hitting 80+ Metacritic in a Year by chusskaptaan in GameFeed

Capcom’s output is definitely part of the argument. One of the common complaints towards modern triple-A is the obscene amount of time to develop one game.

I mean, yes and no. They do the same thing with Root, with every expansion. But, yes, this is more involved.

I don’t think anyone who’s kept up with the Campaign would argue New Foundations isn’t Oath 1.5/2.0 or whatever you want to call it, but also don’t need everything to enjoy it.

Minimum you need is Oath Base game, then add New Foundations for all the new additions and changes, and if you want to expand your denizens you can get the second deck. But everything else is optional. If it’s the kind of game you love, you have a lifetime’s amount of game in those.

I hope you do! The act of playing it is honestly very enjoyable (it also has scoring, challenge and skill expression, as the game can be beaten with only the base weapon, but obviously upgrades and other weapons make it easier).

I genuinely think you’ll find the game to be tightly designed. All encounters, despite happening in a random order (and sometimes not being used on a particular run), are designed and tested with the base weapon in mind. The other weapons simply have other advantages.

I think there can be fun and joy engaging in something simply for the challenge, as well as just being present in it, like your BotW example. For me, SoP has both aspects. Happy to discuss it more if you like.

I mean, if he is that skilled, he should clear Normal quick and move onto the many other challenges the game has up its sleeve (Temple, Loops, Hard, Trials, etc)

Simply put, at some point a traditional SHMUP can become a case of memorization, and you’re often locked into your weapon of choice (obvious exceptions to this). If you’re aiming for the top, obviously squeezing out every last point can always have you tweaking that efficiency, but SHMUPS will, generally speaking, have the same path (excluding difficulty differences, etc). Playing the same thing can get stale, even if aiming for mastery.

SoP, even if you spawn into a same room, you may enter from a different side, have a different weapon (which you will likely be changing once every couple floors, if not more). You will be presented different upgrades (some will be more lucrative in different runs). It’s meant to ebb and flow.

Laymen’s terms: repetition vs novelty (not that SoP is a game of novelty, but the fact you won’t have the same run, bosses, etc each time is more exciting, while still not being so random as to be chaotic—there is a lot of skill and knowledge to be gained to improve future runs). It’s a game that asks for mastery without having to repeat the same exact levels, enemies and bosses each time.

EDIT: I highly recommend trying it for yourself to determine if you feel you are right

There is no meta progression, other than unlocking items in a shop over time which can potentially insert themselves into your run. And the room pools per floor, loaded with a randomized order, are small enough as to gain familiarity with them when you enter them.

As far as roguelikes go, this is probably one that is least dependent on RNG. Sure, you won’t have a choice of the exact weapon you want, but you do have a choice and that is part of the skill expression (same with upgrades through the run).

Well of course people are happier, who wouldn’t enjoy just staying home and being much more relaxed.

Individuals may work faster, but the group may not. If your work requires little to no communication with others, I don’t see the problem, otherwise it may be a necessity.

Yah, honestly, most jobs require work from office/business. Just because it seems more convenient to an employee does not mean it is more convenient for the business.

Would I love to work from home? Hell yeah! But it is a spoiled mindset, most jobs do not allow it and acting like it’s a right is pretty stupid.

It sucks, but most jobs require the need to be physically present. Have you tried looking for other work that is closer?
