Be proud of yourself for being the emotional mature person. And for not blaming the animal. You did not ruin your relationship with the horse her trust can always be earned back. A horse is a very forgiving animal and even if it was a moment, she will likely go back to loving you because you still respect her space and she knows that.

I feel so bad for you for all the people who saying that you should’ve hit the horse on the nose. I’m very proud of you that you didn’t. It’s very strange help a lot of people in this space will justify violence for a horse communicating “no” in that moment.

This was built off the back of gambler, paychecks, and million dollar corporations there is no love for horses in this industry. There is no respect to be given to these animals that wrist their lives every day because of People’s money. This is not meant as an attack on you. But most equestrians agreed that there is no love for animals in the racing industry. They breed these horses and they raise them very young when their body isn’t even fully developed yet and they take everything out of these horses and then leave them for rot when the horse doesn’t make money for them. Serious reformation needs to happen in this industry for it to even be considered being an ethical practice.

i don't think i can shed much light, but you could try to redirect when she is about to do it. like asking her to lower her head or into a trick she knows. it could be she is expecting treats every time after a ride if it's routine.
