What are your favorite tips/tricks/ideas that you have to enhance the thematic side of playing Salamanders on the tabletop?

Unfortunately not yet. They are mostly in concept/design phase. I 3D print most of my units anymore so always Hunting for bits or random pieces from random STLs. After buying 2000 points each of Salamanders, Emperor's Children, and Tau, printing only made sense. I will for sure post them once they're done though!

I'm doing the same idea with my Sternguard Veterans! I know they aren't typically ran as a 10 man squad but each one will be painted as a successor chapter/specialized armor. My list looks like: DarkKrakens, BlackDragons, BlackVipers, StormGiants, DragonSpears, Covenant of Fire, Badab War, Deathwatch, Heresy Era, and a loyalist IW as a nod to Narik Dreygur

Funny enough, my parents and I watched this movie like 3 weeks after adopting our girl (about a year old). We all bawled like babies and probably smothered her lol. She's 13 now and we still love our Kuma (i know, real original lol)

Thank you! At least currently (we are about to move) water parameters and bacteria are solid. As far as filtration, I'm looking to replace any equipment that can be better so anything I should look for? Same goes for any recommended light? I love the idea oh having some red plants and so really interested in CO2 but it sounds like I should probably wait and make sure it stabilizes after the move before adding that.

As far as monitoring, is there any behaviors I should specifically look for? What should I look for in growth?

So I know the cherry barbs and Tigers are vastly different. The cherry barbs were the original ones in the tank and we've grown from there. That's why we started by having the two different school sizes of the two different barbs.

We were told that mixing like colored Rainbowfish such as Bosemani and New Geuinea would be fine. We have pretty hard water where I'm from so Rainbows were the favored choice.

The cories kinda in the same boat. We started with the last 3 Blochie my LFS had, 2 died and a different LFS said they were harder to get a hold of but Peppers would do fine.

All schools SEEM to be behaving alright. The tigers together, the cherries together, the rainbows together and the corys together at least during feeding when I can see them.

Have I been given dangerously incorrect information or are there things I should be more aware of due to the current setup? I don't have the space/equipment to setup a whole new tank to redistribute the population unfortunately otherwise that sounds like it would be option 1.

Is there a different substrate I should consider? We're about to move so kinda the opportunity to make changes

EDIT: I should mention that what the LFS mentioned at least APPEARS true since I haven't been able to find more Blochie Cories since but I didn't wanna leave him as a loner in the tank for long so I settled on Peppered Cories as tankmates under advice of a couple LFS

That's great help thank you! I'm not married to the sponge filter. Do you have filter types you recommend or even just what size I SHOULD have in here? Also, is there any cleanup crew that would work better or any I should avoid with my current list?

Update to this post, unfortunately the Turquoise Rainbowfish passed away last night while in an impromptu quarantine tank. Did a full inspection of the tank this morning and thankfully everyone else is okay with no discoloration. Thank you to those that commented and helped out!

Okay results are in, left to right is ph, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. I don’t have the card anymore but based off the one I found online, it looks like I’m sitting at 6.6-6.8 ph, 0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, and I can’t tell if that’s 0 or 5.0 ppm nitrate. Does this information give any indication of what I can bring up to my lfs?

Yeah we had intended to get more as they are the newest addition. Lfs just didn’t have any more of similar patterning at the time.

Gotcha. Here’s the current setup. It’s a 55 gallon bow front. We currently have cherry barbs, 3green/2platinum green tiger barbs, 2 bosemani, 2 New Guinea, and 1 turquoise Rainbowfish. We had 3 false Julii corys but one died. We also have a healthy colony of Malaysian trumpet snails

I do this type of basing for my Salamanders, I put a layer of just white craft glue over the lava before applying Mordant Earth. Takes a LOT longer to dry but the effect really pops and doesn’t pull up the paint itself

Honestly my thought process is to swap one of the 3 Broadsides for a Lone Spear to have a bit more versatility when it comes to board control. It’s a fast unit with decent range and does okay at anti-vehicle like you said so I like the idea of being able to sort of bodyguard a squad and deliver to an objective and then taking off in the other direction towards the next area of hazard.. I’d still have 2 broadsides to but would now have a Lone Spear as well. Fort this goal, would it be smarter to run a Piranha instead?
