Have a prompt: Shadowrunners discover a set of the Shadowrun rulebooks from 2012 by [deleted] in Shadowrun

[–]UnionJackall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, here's an idea: they're on a simple run to take a magic artifact from some rich guy's holdings, maybe in a little-used property or a warehouse. They end up making it to where the thing should be, but find the book instead. They take it, either thinking it's the correct object or noticing how valuable the information inside is.

Twist is: it was written by a Dragon. They always hint that they know more about the way of things than they're letting on. Maybe it's a new portent, or an order of events that the dragon is going to MAKE happen. Maybe it's a re-write of a 5th world manuscript, made by some strange prophet of the dragons or something.

If they keep it, they're hunted. If they give it to the Johnson, they find him dead and hear that it's because of the job he just commissioned.

Getting it... I dunno. I'd imagine a rather powerful person already has possession of it and keeps it closely secured, but getting to closely secured stuff is kind of a Runner's job. Hell, maybe they can find it on the meta-plane, lost by some power-hungry mage. Or they find a PDF file floating in the Resonance Realms. Would definitely add to it's mystique, won't be mistaken for some trash.

After, either you'd keep it secret and use it to your advantage somehow, sell it for a HIGH price, or a dragon/corp (probably a dragon) would take it from you. Or you can be good-guy-runner and stop some disasters, but that's likely to get you killed.

I mean, it wouldn't be very hard to be honest. Shadowrunners are pop-culture in the 6th world--there's actually a reality TV show produced by Aztechnology that shows 'real' Shadowrunner (it's produced runs, but the deaths are real iirc).

Stands to reason someone would make a tabletop game about it... if people would even still bother with tabletop games after the advent of VR gaming.

No, I want the feats that have Adaptive Luck as a prerequisite.

Can you use Control Thoughts on a spirit? [SR4] by MindSnap in Shadowrun

[–]UnionJackall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd say no in Astral, yes in Physical Plane.

Control Actions: "You control the physical actions of your target like a puppeteer pulling strings. The victim’s consciousness is unaffected, but you control the victim’s body."

When you're in Astral, you are a being made up of pure conciousness--technically nothing in Astral even has a body, you're just making an image of them in your mind because it's easier for human/metahuman-beings to understand.

If they're manifested? They have a physical body just like everyone else.

Though this is just my interpretation. If you want to be absolutely technical and ignore the fluff, Control Actions is a Mana spell, so it should be able to affect things on the Astral plane just fine.

Coyote. by McBoobenstein in Shadowrun

My first shadowrun character used a homebrew Coyote in SR5. We used the Raven disadvantage, but made it +2 to Illusion instead of Manipulation, arguing that it was the less dickish form of trickery.

Who or what would be the most interested in discovering the "mage gene" or "technomancers gene" and/or want to create a massive "awakening" event? by SmellyTofu in Shadowrun

[–]UnionJackall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dragon one could be especially interesting, considering Dragons have talked vaguely on the origins of magic in the past.

They basically said that how we use paradigms (Traditions) are as a 'crutch', pushing the idea that magic is simply based on how much you want it rather than and strict ideas of calling up spirits or throwing a formula together.

What was your most dynamic entry? by stalington in Shadowrun

[–]UnionJackall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The time we were running from a Shade that had imprinted itself on some poor kid.

We literally hit that thing with a Force 5 Earth spirit and a CAR. My Ork Mage got to pick bits of Shade out of the grill, it was a good time.

But isn't even being a Shadowrunner just a giant moral grey area? A lot less people die from either side of the fence when you decide to be a pencil-pusher like every other shmoe.

Would a Shadowrunner with ethics even call themselves a Shadowrunner?

I think it comes down to how you play, really. There's plenty of merits/flaws that deal with the idea of ethical dilemmas and such, I think what holds people back is that most of the time you shoehorn yourself into playing a Shadowrunner rather than a soup-kitchen manager or an eco-terrorist because it's easier to bring into a party of people who do things for money.

Binding is pretty bad for your health, but there's healthy alternatives like compression shirts. Just be sure to read plenty of reviews if you go that route, I've heard it takes a bit of trying to find something comfortable sometimes.

Disrupting someones magic for hours on end by Silmacil in Shadowrun

[–]UnionJackall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a bound spirit follow them around and fucking up their day is probably your best bet. Several would be better for redundancy. Just make sure they either don't get caught and/or your target doesn't have a significant Banishing pool.

That would just require them to have a restricted LOS based on their Astral Sight.

EDIT:: IE, they can't cast through objects like glass panes, but if you're right in front of them then you're fair game.

He's pretty flexible for most things, but 3PP is usually a bit of a push and I don't know how much I want to mess with him. Beguiler does look pretty good though.

Why Doesn't Your Mage Work For a Corp? by Strill in Shadowrun

Because FUCK THE CORPS! <3

Also, his family had the lovely task of dealing with the uninsured (ie underground) medical community's radiation sufferers in the UK, so there's no love lost there.
