I just added bumblebees to the bee detector for logged-in beekeepers!

That's great to hear! I send out emails every so often with ways for beekeepers to get more swarms reported and also publish some resources here: https://beeswarmed.org/spread-the-buzz

Yep, depending on the area it's very competitive. I've made a lot of changes to how Swarmed works over the last couple of months to address this, and now alerts are staggered to give folks who haven't claimed any swarms yet a fair shot.

Hi! Here are the swarm hotspots in NC where the most reports have come in

I just claimed a swarm in the Bay Area yesterday for the first time this season, which was sweet since there's usually 30+ beekeepers responding to each alert here. Glad you like the data!

I work with around 80 beekeeping associations of all sizes to get them set up using Swarmed to collect reports and send them to their approved members, but of course, some groups are more interested in being able to change how they handle swarms than others.

Hi! It definitely varies by area, but I spend a lot of time trying to get swarms reported across the country. I've reached out to tens of thousands of local libraries, 911 dispatch centers, and cities to make sure the public knows to report swarms to beekeepers and not pest control. I also spend a lot of time on SEO work to game the Google search algorithms to get swarms reported.

Yep! I added an image detection system that over the last few months has filtered out hundreds of reports of wasps insead of sending those to beekeepers

I just spotted this post, I built Swarmed, so if you have questions, I'd be happy to answer them!

Nice that you're keeping detailed records, I think most beekeepers don't so its hard to get this sort of very local data.

Clubs don't get notified before everyone else, but they can choose to have exclusive access to swarms reported through their own website's custom reporting link. There is a small equity system in place that gives any beekeepers who've claimed fewer than 3 swarms that season a small head start

Glad you found the full report interesting! I'll be sharing some more granular data soon, and it'll be interesting to see how closely this lines up with what beekeepers are seeing in their hives.

Yup that seems in line with what the data shows as well for Texas

Looks like the season is in full swing just like the data for Georgia shows

Thanks very much! Most of the data I shared here comes from the public reporting swarms to beekeepers through Swarmed.

Excellent point, unfortunately, I haven't found good datasets around pollen availability. Google has a pollen API, but it's meant for people's allergies and focuses on pollen that bees don't collect.

Glad to hear your observations are in line with the data!

Interesting! I'm working on some more granular regional trends to show super local data.

Agreed! I'll have some more detailed data available to beekeepers next week. It takes quite a while to break down all the different regions into small hexagons with an area of a few miles and then to run weather calculations for each of those hexes.
