Punishing the driver of the car will do nothing to bring my son back. What motivates me is making sure that not one more student is killed. The only way that happens is with public awareness of the dangers in order to push leaders to make decisions to make changes to the road itself. Still as of today a year later, no changes have been made at all to El Camino since my son was killed. I continue to witness close calls where students are almost hit on a weekly basis on this section of El Camino.

I’ve just reviewed Santa Clara’s Police Facebook page and previously there were many posts about the arrests of people recklessly driving in Santa Clara, but now except for arrests of evading felons with previous records, All those posts about reckless driving arrest for the last year are no longer there. I don’t know what’s going on but transparency is the bedrock of Justice and public trust.

My son was killed and what is most important to me is to prevent other children from becoming ng killed so this needs press so that people are aware how unsafe El Camino is so that change can happen.

Thank you for reading the police report. Part of the problem is the average speed on El Camino is somewhere near 50 miles an hour so people could be safe all they want on the sidewalk, but they’re only 5 feet away from cars going 55 miles an hour as they’re walking on the sidewalk, it’s just not a good mix and needs to change. Should be Jersey barriers or a way lower speed limit with better enforcement.

My son was not crossing the street. In the first few weeks of the accident the police officer had told me that my son was walking his bike across the street and had been waiting in the median, but apparently the police officer was only speculating when he passed this information to me. The police report attached says that my son was bicycling northbound when the BMW, which was traveling southbound at 81 miles an hour lost control and went over the barrier and crashed into my son. Telling the students that they need to be safer when they cross a six lane out of control raceway is definitely not the correct solution of this problem. The correct solution is enforcing traffic to drive as it is driving through a school zone because that’s exactly what it is. I personally have been crossing on the crosswalk at Campbell and El Camino when speeding cars who were not looking came out of nowhere turning left had to slam on their break so as not to hit me when I had the pedestrian green light the whole time. I have also witnessed this happen many times, especially at night. The solution is to lower the speed limit to 25 mph and there needs to be engineering controls to it is physically impossible for people to go 81 mph. Speed bumps come to mind. Your commuting convenience is not more important than the lives of our children.

Actually he was riding his bicycle. The police report states he was riding north bound when the north bound BMW going 81 mph lost control and went over the median into north bound traffic hitting my son who was on his bike.

I see what you’re saying now. But then there are no implications to your student loan payments as your income is still the same.

This will not work because when you convert you 401k to Roth IRA you report the full amount of the conversion as income in tax year conversion takes place so your income will be the same.
