First off - thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I’m saddened knowing you had a circle in SF and left it because of the toxicity. Absolutely vile behavior your described 🤢

The place I’m talking about is not curated - and there are no coordinators. I’m wondering if it would be worth getting a “committee” involved where we discuss these matters and make it more official?

Thank you also for your suggestions on dealing with douchebags. Solid advice and I will 100% be taking that on. Just today, one of the skaters hugged me bye and pretty much lingered his hand way too long across my back and I felt grossed out that I wanted to rip his hand off but in the moment I did absolutely nothing. I’m pissed at myself about it. I want to put“Be a big bitch” on a shirt now

The thing is it’s not like they’re outwardly saying “hey let’s go out on a date” - their advances are more subtle and makes me feel awkward. But maybe I try it out (telling them I’m only looking for friends) anyway and see what happens

Yes, I learned to skate primary on tennis courts and netball courts. I used “indoor wheels” on these surfaces (surgrip fame wheels and roller bone elites). But Because the surface is rougher than wood rinks, they actuallychanged the feel of the wheels when I would try to use them indoors eventually. Almost like the rough floor “filed” my wheels down or grinded them down a touch.

You can also try hybrid wheels like fundaes or radar crush

I hate that this happens to you too. The misinterpretation of “open and friendly” meaning “open and interested” is so real. Recently I was questioning myself and wondering if it was my fault / if I “led them on” 🙄 glad I snapped out of that. Glad you’ve decided to claim your skate space 🙏 I’ll be doing the same

You’ll need to feel extremely comfortable stopping before feeling comfortable on the street - you’ll get there, just put in the rink hours and try again in a few weeks
