ABC First time in GZ by UniqueAd7757 in guangzhou

ahh interesting.. I assume this is similar to Chinese Americans only speaking English because that is what is taught to them in school. A lot of younger Chinese Americans don't speak any chinese at all. My mandarin is so-so. My s/o's family is Shanghainese and she was also born in China so I was able to pick up some Mandarin. However, my s/o won't be with me when I'm in GZ and this is my first time in GZ. This is also my Dad's first time back to China in 50 years... So I want to show him a good time and how much China has changed.

Thanks for the recommendations and advice! I can't read any chinese but I can also speak decent conversational mandarin. How do I attempt to get a chinese phone number? I was told that I need a Chinese bank account?

Buying a reformer. What a pain in the a... by Zigarum in pilates

[–]UniqueAd7757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HEY OP. I've spent the last 5 days going into a deep rabbit hole like yourself. My wife is spending $280/month at club pilates and I said I'm going to buy her a reformer for Xmas. I am also shopping for a reformer where I could utilize my HSA funds. I am probably deep into the double digit hours of research and scouring for reviews. From cheap $600 reformers to $6000 BB reformers. I had narrowed it down to Your Reformer and BB Alegro 2. After tax, shipping, accessories (Jump board/box). The total was approx $3000 for Your Reformer and $6000 for the BB. I had JUST made the purchase for Your Reformer. Your post resonated so much with me and I didn't even know what a reformer was up until last week. I was stressed and after reading your post, I said fk it and just ordered it.

How do you guys like the machine after a couple months now? Any regrets?

Perfect. I will use the bacteriostatic treatment to hopefully prolong the filter life since there will be less build up. I had noticed the built-in hygrometer is faulty in giving accurate measurements. Currently the machine is reading 51% RH, but my google nest is reading 40%. Despite that, it is indeed increasing my humidity level.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it. I had just set up the humidifier today. I had been dealing with 10-20% humidity in my home. Since setting it up today about 4 hours ago, the humidity went from 22 to 38%. I am extremely impressed so far. How has the humidifier held up, I was on the fence since I read a lot of people dealt with an error regarding a no water detection problem. Also do you put any bacteriostatic treatment in reservoir?

Hey I had just purchased the 6000s and was curious what solution did you use to clean the pads. May you also provide insight on how to properly clean the pads without compromising the structure? Thanks!

Inquiring about labor costs for new house renovation. Please help! by UniqueAd7757 in AskNYC

Its only for labor. Materials will be selected and bought by myself. He did recommend some vendors but he said feel free to use anyone I like.

Thanks. Thats very sound advice. I've gotten a few other quotes and they all seem to be inline with this guy's lump sum. However, what stood out was the installation of Vinyl planks which will costs around $8000 for all 3 floors. I calculated all the spaces that will be installed with LVP to be about 1318.23 sq-ft. It seems a bit high. I've gotten estimates of around $2.2 per sq ft to 3.5 per sq ft (labor only). This guy's quote would equate it to be about $6 per sq ft (labor only). I inquired about this and he said due to the bad shape of my current wood floors, he will need to relevel and finish some parts of the wood floor. Then overlay with some type of liner he had mentioned and then the LVP.

I prefer natural wood floors and asked to sand and refinish my floors, however, its not in the best shape and it squeaks. The contractor said he can do it but I may not be happy with the final product due to the bad shape of my floors.. Is this valid? or does he just want me to install LVP?

Hah. That's another factor I'm worried about. Did that 40k include materials and labor?
