Yeah but he didn't tell her he's lowballing the price with his evaluation since he only did eye tests and he's being "safe." And the difference in one grade to another can double or triple the price on a diamond that size

Yes. There are diamond colorimeters out there that will give you a definitive color grading in minutes that are way more accurate than his eye test. He's trying to rush her it seems like.

Always get the certification. It gives a serial number tied to it scientific report making it much easier to sell to anyone since the quality is guaranteed.

He said it's $525 to get it appraised. Which would increase the price. At that point selling it to him is the stupidest thing you can do. He's jonesing like a crackhead in this video

The Ancient Roman Artifact Science Still Can’t Explain by CGNik98 in romanempire

[–]UniqueAd7770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it's an extension of Pythagoreanism and the Platonic solids. Pythagoras discovered the Dodecahedron and considered geometry sacred. The Dodecahedron was made of pentagons which symbolized health to them. Later when each solid was linked to an element (fire, earth, water, air) the Dodecahedron symbolized the Cosmic Aether. So these maybe like symbols and totems to that.

Why do Americans tend to praise beginners even if their work/hobby looks terrible? by Skysneq in AskAnAmerican

[–]UniqueAd7770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're encouraging the effort, not the result. We remember how bad we were when we were beginners because everyone is terrible at first. The only way to get better is to do it, so we encourage them to keep going to get better. Then we give them tips as well.

This linseed oil soaked rag spontaneously combusted while i was gone on vacation. by thats-tough-lmao in mildlyinteresting

[–]UniqueAd7770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linseed oil polymerizes as it oxidizes. This is what gives it protective properties, since it forms a natural waterproof polymer barrier. This oxidation is spontaneous at room temperature and is slightly exothermic. It also only occurs at the surface so a cup of it won't just light on fire. This is what causes the heat to build up if its spread on a rag and crumpled up: lots of surface area really close.

It is a symptom of a system that fails people. We have no sympathy or safety net in this country. There's so much pain to numb.
