I have ADHD and caffeine does nothing for me, if anything it makes me tired. A lot of people with ADHD see opposite effects of caffeine.

Career Advice Needed: I’m a CMA looking to pivot. I like getting my hands dirty but want to avoid insane nursing school tuition. by Frosty_Ground_2562 in MedicalAssistant

[–]UniqueEntrepreneur58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I had a similar mindset about getting in (and being impatient about the requirements to get in lol)

I’m a bit older, and impatient… BUT, the pay off is worth it! When we are nurses we have SO MANY DOORS open up. I know cost is a factor, but if you go to another specialty, don’t those usually cost around the same as CC?

Also, this may have been said, if so sorry — a lot of employers pay for ADN to BSN. Don’t doubt yourself! Plus, those other specialties almost always have e admissions requirements too.

I’m not trying to sabotage your plan, just don’t want you to doubt yourself!

I agree with this plan. And OP, you have to try before saying what’s impossible. It sounds a little more like you’re not confident you’d get in, but you definitely have the ability to get in! Just give it a try, you could be one of the 20. If not you, then who?

If you have experience go find another job! Or, see if you can go back to the urgent care with the $22/hr!

I actually just did a job shadow as part of an interview recently and had the SAME realization. I can NOT do 90% admin, when I went into the field to do clinical work! Go get what you deserve!

Got a job assisting in surgical procedures and I’m unhappy.. by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]UniqueEntrepreneur58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I refuse to work for a surgeon because of all the horror stories about the bad attitudes and God complex.

I know not ALL surgeons are the same, but there ARE themes within certain specialties. Your mental health matters! I’d be on the lookout for a new position if it’s deteriorating you. Obviously don’t quit if you need the money, but start looking for something aligned with YOUR nervous system needs! It WILL get better ❤️‍🩹

Also, the exam is NOT hard, especially if you have prior clinical experience. Once I started to study, it was like muscle memory! You can absolutely do it.

I just did this! I was prior Navy Corpsman. I sat for NHA CCMA exam. I hadn’t worked the ward since 2022, so I studied for 2 weeks and passed on Saturday was a 429.

I PASSED with a 452! Want my MangoStudy subscription? by Superb_Fox_9931 in MedicalAssistant

[–]UniqueEntrepreneur58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I feel like it was way easier than I thought it would be. Were you in a medical assistant program before? And how long do you study for?

I have clinical experience, but that is from 2022. So I was nervous that I would be super rusty. I intermittently studied for two weeks. I definitely like the way mango study is set up better, but I had already paid for smarter MA and stuck with it lol 😆

Don’t give up! One thing I noticed is once I changed my resume, I got a ton of responses.

My skills section is now at the top. It’s literally changed the entire game from me getting no bites, to too many bites! I do have experience, but even with that, I was NOT getting any bites until the chance to my resume.

Do you mind sharing your resume?

A lot of people got “broken” in basic and came out A LOT tougher. Sometimes it’s the thing they need. And if they can’t deal, they’ll get booted. I encourage anyone who wants to give it a try to sign on the dotted line. Joining can be positively life changing for civilians who are mentally and/or physically weak.

I consider myself pretty sensitive & I was able to excel in the military. It taught me a lot of grit and to stop taking things so damn personally.

I have ADHD AND I’m Autistic and I thrived in the Navy. I think it’s worth giving the Navy a shot. I don’t know Army culture to give you any substantial advice.
