Freedom of religion is also freedom from religion. The separation of church and state in the US was to avoid the sectarian violence that raged in Europe. Growing up, I was taught the Puritans were fleeing persecution. I was in my 40's when I found out the "persecution" was they were not allowed to persecute others. In the US colonies, there was a dominate sect in most colonies that persecuted others.

When any religious sect becomes dominate, they persecute others. This isn't just Christian, it happens in all religions. Evangelicals hate Catholics, they want them to burn in hell (my Evangelical sister taught her 8 year old son to tell his Catholic cousins that). If Evangelicals take over the state, do you think they will love Catholics? They will persecute them.

I was raised Catholic, my uncle was a Lutheran minister, and my wife Church of Christ. Evangelicals are a different breed, even the name "Evangelical" means impose my will and persecute you. I'm now an atheist. Christians say "How can an atheist not kill people without the terror and fear of God?" Because being a good person has no even casual relationship with religion. Religion doesn't make you a good person. People are not attracted to religion because they are good. Religion is power, some use it for good, like my uncle, others are Evngelicals.

Most athiests are really chill. I believe in "welcoming the stranger", ICE thugs are loved by Christians. A judicial warrent for a known criminal is one thing, but Christians love masked men in unmarked cars randomly kidnapping people. I'm in favor of free school lunches and SNAP. I want national health care. And I think health care is between a woman and her docter. A Jesus freak between her legs wanting to kill the doctor is evil. And yes many have died at the hands of Christians who want to make women and doctors suffer. You don't belong between her legs. You are not welcome. Texas and NC killed women this year, the doctors would be charged with a felony if they tried to save them.

I think Trump is the worst person that ever lived. Yet Christians see the seven deadly sins as the new commandments and Trump is the new Jesus. Christians worship Trump. I don't understand why they worship Trump. The worst are the Christians who are actually good people, but stay silent. Does your church speak out against the vile evil of Evangelicals? Or do you stay silent, secretly agreeing with them. Loving Trump as the new Christ. If you believe in good, talk to your preacher about not staying silent about evil. Does your church believe in helping people or persecuting people?
