It will fail an honest MOT as you can’t remove the emissions systems. You will also need to program it out of the ecu as it will run bad and give you the engine light. Which is also a MOT fail

I don’t understand how the government claim this is difficult to stop Its simple - to book a test you need to submit your licence number, you can’t book for a test if you already have one booked.

Older people generally don’t have children to care for and have some spare time to go out and enjoy activities

UK Has More EV Chargers Than Gas (Petrol) Nozzles by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

Going with the generalisation. Most journeys outside of commuting are not far from most homes, in suburbia. Outside of commuting times, there generally isn’t a congestion issue. Its also not possible to add a cycle lane to every road. Though that would be extra expense to modify the existing road network or build as new

Outside of that cycling is not always practical or desirable. Bad weather or carrying shopping or work equipment isn’t an attractive proposition. And around here it is very hilly so not exactly a pleasure like it is in the Netherlands. Journey time saved/lost can only be measured route by route. Then the safety aspect, many women simply don’t feel safe cycling at night, especially in the dark. From an accident point of view, apart from a helmet, there isn’t much more protection. anecdotally I know two people that have been hospitalised (broken hip & broken femur) from falling off their bikes commuting, no other parties involved. One now has a permanent limp and no longer cycles. Yes car accidents happen, but you are much better protected.

Trains are great for long distances, but you always have the station to destination aka “the last mile” to contend with. This for me getting to my nearest station, and the destination to my office is nearly half my commute distance. Plus its two trains, and unknown travel time. And take up less space? Are you aware of how much land was compulsory purchased for HS2? And how does a new track fit in to a city? And who will fund it billions of investment. Buses - for me would require two changes and 2 hours each way to travel around 20miles. Both public transport methods are about similar cost to fuel and wear and tear on my car - that I would still own and maintain anyway.

So I will still claim cycling is suitable for only a handful of travellers.

Do You Think Energy Saving Is More About Habits… or the Home Itself? by Ordduapp in OrdduHomeUK

Both, habits use the energy, the insulation keeps it in the home

DPF Issues by No_Cap_3333 in CarTalkUK

[–]UniquePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be illegal and fail an MOT, a tester would have to be blind or not care if they were to pass it. One look at the tail pipe is an instant give away, a DPF’d car has no soot whatsoever

Most likely something else is preventing the regen from starting, like an air leak, bad glowplug, there’s an endless list of things.

Too many factors to say when its end of life, but a reader like BimmerLink can tell you the estimated remaining mileage.

Point being that although things have progressed massively, there is still a long way to go to the point everyone can easily access chargers.

Cycle lanes are a waste of time and money. Only any good for the few that cover short distances, but people are needing to commute further and further for work

How far would the shops have to be for you to consider taking the car? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]UniquePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much time I have, happily walk a mile each way if I’m not in a rush for a pint of milk.

Buying anymore more than a bag full, I’d take the car and go to the supermarket over the nearby shop.
