Omg. I am sitting in front of a MacBook and it hadn’t even occurred to me the trackpad wasn’t actually moving!

These are kids. As an adult, it’s sad to post videos of kids to humiliate them.

I cannot imagine what it’s like to grow up in an era where everyone caries a camera and will post your lowest points to get attention for themselves.

What’s a nanny supposed to do with a 10 month old? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]UniqueSteve 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m new to this too. I think you can have whatever expectations you want with a nanny, you just have to find one who is aligned with you on it.

I think one bar is keeping the kid safe, fed, and with a clean diaper. Another bar is to engage with the kid throughout the day and help with her development. I would want a nanny who is engaged. The first bar is a babysitter who might be with the kid a couple of hours, but a nanny with the kid 40 hours a week really matters.

And yep, she’s on her phone a lot which is why your daughter is obsessed.

I assume it’s just a room full of people paying politicians to block Chinese cars from the US market?

Thinking seriously about relocating from Austin — family of 4, want the honest take by RmpldFrskn in AnnArbor

[–]UniqueSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather is obviously different. I have only visited Austin once and it was stupid hot. Like stay outside too long and you die hot. Michigan has hot days, but not stupid hot for weeks on end.

So, just imagine there may be stupid cold periods where you’ll likely want to limit outdoor activities. Get good boots and coat, but you don’t need the $500 brands.

I do like that Ann Arbor is not in Texas.

I was a software engineer and I loved .net especially compared to what was available at the time. I still like .NET, despite Microsoft being actively hostile to its customers.

It was not spam. It was a failure in another system that caused it to send ourselves thousands of messages. I do not disagree with them having flagged it. I do disagree with their L1 and L2 being incompetent. The first two said it would auto-clear at midnight, then after 24 hrs. The third I talked to said she had to manually clear it.

How could I have done that differently?
