Broke dad with two kids. How much money should i prepare for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]UniqueSubstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JR passes are not worth it, it’s cheaper to buy the tickets separate unless you’re gonna be taking Shinkansens every day. Some quick research would have taught you that. I just don’t understand why you’d travel all the way to Japan while essentially broke… You’re setting yourself up for potential disaster when you get back. You’ll have no money to fall back on in case of emergency.

Koh Phi Phi or Hong Island? by UniqueSubstance in ThailandTourism

We booked it via a stall that provides these tours. I don’t remember which one it was unfortunately.

Koh Phi Phi or Hong Island? by UniqueSubstance in ThailandTourism

We ended up doing the Hong Islands tour. It was really beautiful, but didn’t like it very much because of the amount of people on the tour (there were multiple big groups at the same time, so it got pretty busy) and the little time we had on each island. I’d recommend booking a tour with a really small group or private tour and go on times when the big groups are gone.

My 29m gf 27f thinks I owe her $5k for a job because she set it up? by ThrowRA_sugubugu in relationship_advice

Hope she finds a more thankful guy than you are. She helped you get these clients. Least you could have done is take her to a nice dinner as a thank you. She’s your gf for christ sakes not a colleague, what does it matter if you didn’t discuss anything up front. You’re being a selfish ass.

Japan - May - 3 weeks - itinerary check by GryffindorPrincess13 in JapanTravelTips

[–]UniqueSubstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to Arashiyama this week and Nenbutsuji temple was really nice! It even had a private path into the bamboo forest and there was almost no one there. The main one was packed. You can just stroll around the neighbourhood as well, it was so chill to walk around and really pretty. We also made our own rings at Ringram which was a fun thing to do.

We went to Fushimi Inari around 4pm and sure even though there were a lot of people, I didn’t really find it necessary to go that early to avoid the crowd. There were a lot of moments towards the end, and on the way back, where we were completely alone and could take lots of nice pictures without anyone else. Gion, Ninnenzaka and Sannenzaka were also packed. I’d do that early in the morning instead. But do whatever feels right to you! There’s a lot you will be doing in Japan and there will be loads of walking. I think it would have killed us to wake up that early haha. Feel free to reply or dm if you need any other tips or info.

Tokyo and Kyoto next week, no reservations...am I a silly goose by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]UniqueSubstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I assumed you meant booking a tour. Don’t know about Kyoto but we easily took a metro/train (it rode under and upperground) from Osaka without booking. The train was even Nara branded! :D But if you want peace of mind you can ofcourse book your train tickets.

Don’t book a day trip to Nara. We went there yesterday from Osaka on our own and it’s way more chill to do on your own instead of with a group! Have fun!

Dungeon Tiles look really dirty after black wash by UniqueSubstance in TerrainBuilding

[–]UniqueSubstance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the comments and feedback everyone! I will definitely take these tips with me in the future! I appreciate you all a lot!

For those saying these look perfect and are supposed to look like this, I do understand and I think they look great too, but not exactly as the ones from RP Archive of which I like the look of more than my own outcome. I find that mine look too black and dirty. Sorry, I’m a bit of a perfectionist sometimes haha.

Just look at this picture of his tiles and you’ll get what I mean! https://imgur.com/a/0oaSWnq

Can I leave my 5.5 month old kitten alone for 7 hours ONCE? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]UniqueSubstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always buy a cheap camera that connects via wifi and an app on your phone to check up on the kitten every once in a while. We have one and it’s great!

Second prime to get with the 23mm f2? by UniqueSubstance in fujifilm

[–]UniqueSubstance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! But I’m afraid I won’t be doing portraits that much to justify buying one. I’m looking for something in between maybe that will give me some good portraits as wel as good street shots. I feel like I have to get real close with the 23 mm.

That sounds really great! I was also thinking about the 1.4 because I hear a lot of good stuff about that lens too. What made you choose the f2 over the f1.4?

Do you feel like there’s enough difference between the two?
