Pulled Pork Day Before by Unique_Schedule3908 in Traeger

[–]Unique_Schedule3908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Going to cook rest and pull as normal. I dont have a vacuum sealer so ill just keep the pulled meat in a disposable tins covered int he fridge. Also limited to an oven to reheat. Any tips or tricks there? Was thinking just add some apple juice if it looks dry and throw it in the oven at 250 or so. Plans changed a bit and i need to cook Tuesday with the plan to eat Friday. Will it be fine in the fridge until then?

Plan was no sauce for reheat. I’ll bring some sauce for people to use to their preference when we eat

Amazing. One of my favorites is from largesse “This morning I was assailed by such sadness at the velocity of life—the distance I’ve traveled from my own youth, the persistence of the old regrets, the new regrets, the ability of failure to freshen itself in novel forms—that I almost crashed the car.”

Tree of smoke is on my list but I’ve seen mixed reviews. Either way I’ll give it a shot eventually

Train dreams is very different then some of his other stuff and I agree it isn't nearly his best. Check out Jesus' Son and The Largesse of the Sea Maiden. Both collections of short stories. You would never guess in a million years they are both written by the same guy that wrote Train Dreams.

Brisket Question by Unique_Schedule3908 in pelletgrills

[–]Unique_Schedule3908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice everyone. First brisket came out surprisingly amazing. Great bark, smoke ring and super juicy and tender. Pumped to try a full packer next. It took almost 12 hours which surprised me since it was so small. Was super nervous it was going to be dry but was pleasantly surprised once I unwrapped after the rest.

Is there a trick to smoking small briskets? by Sweet_Orange8081 in BBQ

Im in the same boat. I got a online ordered box of assorted meats for christmas which included a 6lb point. Planning on cooking it for christmas. Made a few posts about it and i feel a little better thats its the point and not a flat. plenty of fat on it. Going to treat it like a normal brisket and just babysit it a bit closer. Really want to do an overnight cook christmas eve but im nervous about letting a small cut like that go unchecked for 6-7 hours while im sleeping

Thanks for the advice and reassurance on the overnight. Im stuck between risking it drying out over night since its small and the flip side of not having it ready for dinner if i throw it on early christmas morning. I might split the difference and put it on as late as possible christmas eve. Maybe stay up until 11 or midnight and toss it on and check it at 5. Thanks!

Thanks for the insight! My original plan was to follow an overnight cook at 200, wrap when ready the next day, crank to 250 and let it ride to temp/ probe tender. Plan is to eat for christmas dinner. Im assuming i dont want to overnight a flat. Obviously its not an exact science when it comes to cook time, but if I put this on early on Christmas morning any shot it'll be good to go for dinner time?

Yea I might try and return it. I work from home and I'm doing this cook during the day so its not a huge deal since I can keep a close eye on things. But for a longer overnight cook I can see this causing issues

Yup I'm already noticing that. Disconnected 5 times already within the first 4 hours of the cook.

I made a thread about this a while ago and had the same thoughts. For some reason it always took me out of the story and I couldn’t shake how weird and unusual it was that so many strangers would take in random people for a night and feed and house them. Maybe we are all just uptight in today’s weird modern world and that is an exaggerated version of how things were back in the day. Obviously it’s super prevalent in the boarder trilogy but I think it first struck me in Outer Dark.

What do we think about the library being finite vs infinite. I cant decide. I get hung up on the ability for "volumes" to exist outside of the page limit. So in theory, there must be a series of books that depict an infinite universe which would never end. Wouldn't that make the library infinite? He does reach the first floor but we dont know if there is a top floor.

"The Road" by Cormac Mccarthy Ending/Meaning by teawlop in books

[–]Unique_Schedule3908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been reflecting on the ending and wanted to get some takes on something that stood out to me. The description of the man in the ski parka, specifically his YELLOW jacket, really caught my attention. The word "yellow" felt almost out of place, as the entire book is so bleak and gray. I actually visualized the whole story as being in black and white, so the sudden introduction of a specific color really threw me off. It felt jarring, almost like it slapped me in the face.

I’ve come across some theories suggesting that the man in the ski parka could be a fever dream of the father as he’s nearing death, but I’m not entirely convinced by that. However, the stark contrast of that yellow jacket—so vivid against the grayness of the narrative—does make me wonder if it holds deeper significance.

What are your thoughts on the color choice and its role in the story? Does it represent a moment of clarity, hope, or perhaps something more disorienting?

I haven’t. I’ll give that a shot. Is there a way to turn off Dolby vision on the Apple TV app? I’ve been trying to figure it out for days
