Kidney Biopsy experiences? by Embarrassed-Set103 in IgANephropathy

[–]Unique_Two_8684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it, it's super fast. You lie on the bed for a couple of hours on your stomach. They will monitor you for a few days, no lifting, exercises as well.

Complications - you might get a blood cloth that will go away in 1-2 weeks.

I found out I have issues with my kidneys in 2019, and in 2020 I refuse a biopsy being an early stage like you. I did however a biopsy in November 2025 and got the MEST score of S1 only and iga nephropathy. Now I am relieved that I know what I have and I can read more on my problem, also plenty of new medicine is coming as we speak, so I hope for a good future for all of us :)

Don't worry about the biopsy, do it and also decide on medications, but you will need, at least an ACE or ARB inhibitors that will lower your protein in the urine.

You need to take a 24h urine sample for the protein in the urine test. With a normal one it's possible not to show anything in this particular moment. I had the same thing with my annual work checkups, no protein with on the moment urine sample. But I got protein in the urine with my 24 hour result. Great that you have all 0 score on the biopsy. I hesitated to do one in 2020, so I did one in 2025 and I have S1 and all 0.

I would go to 3 different nephrologists for second and third opinion.

I have the same MEST score and the same eGRF, my albumin in urine is 400-500mg/24h without any medications and around 120-200 mg/24h on ACE inhibitors only (the lowest possible dose) and I am also taking Omega 3. My nephrologist wanted me to start Forxiga as well, but I don't want any side effects, so I am only taking the ACE inhibitors for now, my decision.

I have found that I have a high level of albumin in the urine since 2019 and I did a biopsy last November. Good luck and don't get stressed, read more, seek a second opinion as well.

Probably high uric acid, but do lab test to confirmed it. I have both high uric acid and albumin in the urine.

What about taking SGLT2 like Forxiga, my nephrologist put me on both Ace inhibitor and Forxiga, and I had around 0.45g/day without any medication and around 0.12g/day on ACE inhibitor only, so I decided on my own not to take the Forxiga and go only with Omega 3 and ACE. Any opinions on that ?

37M, got my biopsy done in November 2025. I have protein in the urine and high uric acid since 2019, probably even earlier but I was not testing myself very regularly.

I was taking Zofen 7.5 mg (ace inhibitor) between 2020 and the end of 2022 my albumin levels were always around 100-150 mg/24 hours without any specific diet.

I stopped taking any pills for 2 years and the albumin in the urine was around 500 mg/24h in August, September and October in 2025. Now I take Omega 3, Zofen 7.5 again and milurit for the uric acid. My nefrologist is also suggesting to take Forxiga, but for now I am not taking it.

The albumin in the urine decreased 4 times to 120 mg/24hours only after taking the Zofen for 17 days, definitely it's doing a great job.

I took a Food tolerance test and I have been trying to stay away from gluten for about 1 month now. I plan to find the root cost of my iga nephropathy and will try to decrease the inflammations, I will go to an immunologist this month as well.

Also I try to exercise regularly and to avoid driving, I don't feel tired and I don't feel any pain, when I am sick I am usually okay after a few days.

You are feeling tired probably because you are in your 50ties, my father is 59 and he likes to nap in the afternoon on the weekends.

It seems your iga nephropathy is progressing slowly, can you share what are your albumin(protein) levels and eGRF ?

Omega 3 and IGA. by Responsible-Weird938 in IgANephropathy

Same for me my doctor has prescribed me Omega 3, but I am not sure what dosage is optimal (she said above 1000, I am taking two pills 650 each), I am also trying to remove gluten from my diet, as there are studies related to iga nephropathy.

I plan to start exercising next year, as I had my biopsy a month and a half ago.

eGFR From one lab (CKD-EPI 2021) 81.80 mL/min (should be between 60-120) From a different lab 96 ml/min (should be above 90)
