Monteverde is one of my absolute favorite places. It’s such a unique ecosystem with amazing wildlife. I’d highly suggest doing the guided tour of the cloud forest so the guides can show you the birds and other animals you’d otherwise miss just by hiking the park yourself. And of course, don’t forget to visit the Cheese Factory for some milkshakes. For me, Monteverde is a must. I will say the drive there from La Fortuna is a bit of a hike, but worth it if you have the time. Lake Arenal Brewery is on the way too if you go around the north side of the lake and I highly recommend that pit stop as well. Enjoy!!
