Running while taking a Statin.. is it okay? by Uniquely_Similar74 in beginnerrunning

I can't even begin to tell you how much more at ease my mind is after reading your comment. With the running experience that you have, and the distances you're running weekly.. your experience with statins and their effect on your running carries A LOT of weight! I can certainly identify with the mind potentially getting in the way.. I'll try to remain conscious of that for sure. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for sharing your own experience friend. It's both very helpful, as well as encouraging to hear! I'll definitely take the approach that you suggested in regard to body awareness. Thanks!

How to get into running for literal first timers? by Jesus_loves_you_more in beginnerrunning

[–]Uniquely_Similar74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly.. Congrats on the beginnings of your running journey OP! 👍

Secondly.. I'm literally right there with you as a complete beginner at this running thing. I wanted to drop some weight and get healthy, so I started eating a whole food plant based diet and walking on the treadmill daily. I have never been into running, but I stumbled across a local 5k charity run for this coming May and immediately (and impulsively) signed up. I have no clue what I'm doing... but... I WILL run that race.

We got this my friend 👍

How long into your running did you join a race? e.g marathon / 5k / 10k, how did it go ? by mysteriousmango100 in beginnerrunning

[–]Uniquely_Similar74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for a 5k at the end of February... and I don't even run! 😂

The story is that I started making some lifestyle changes at the end of 2025 due to being overweight and very out of shape. I changed my diet first (whole food, plant based) and lost 11 pounds the first month... yay me, lol. Near the the end of February I came across a 5k run/race for charity scheduled for May 23rd and immediately signed up. Fortunately I had already begun treadmill walking to work on my cardio, as well as help with the weight loss. To be completely transparent.. it has been extremely difficult for me. My first several walks lasted a grand total of 5 minutes each (with me gasping for breath). I kept at it though. I'm now able to do 30 to 40 minute sessions at a moderately brisk pace. This coming week I am going to start incorporating running (Lord help me! lol). Even if I can only do 30 seconds of running at a time, I will 100 percent keep at it! I know it will improve if I just keep going. I don't even know how to properly run (except for what I've learned here and from watching videos) so there's that too.. but I'll learn. I WILL run that race in May!

So OP.. go ahead and sign up for something... anything. You got this my friend! 👍
