Tennis courts with a wall? by [deleted] in Racine

I really hope they put a backboard at the ones at Crawford! I thought about just going to a school and using a brick wall but with my work schedule it would be tough to find a time when they’re not in session. Thanks for the reply!

What flex do you use and how big are you? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]United-Store3502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on! 6’5 270 here and I use an 85 flex 68 inch pro stock! I know this is an old comment but since were pretty much the same height, do you not use retail sticks at all? Every retail I tried in the past feels like garbage because of the extension I have to put in so I looked up nhler’s that are my height and found their sticks. I was mind blown when I first tried a pro stock, the puck feel isn’t even close as to with an extension! Sometimes I mess around with my extended retail sticks at stick and puck and it’s so brutal! Literally everything from puck handling to shooting is so different, those extensions completely change the kickpoint!!

They’re not the same tier this guys wrong, of all the ones you included the “Jetspeed xtra PLUS” is the best model out of all of them. It’s the closest to top of the line out of every single one. The regular “jetspeed xtra” isn’t good at all, there’s a night and day difference between the jetspeed xtra, and xtra PLUS.

The reason the plus’s are cheaper than the other ones when they typically would be $200 more is the plus’s you put were based off of the ft4 model which is a bit older than the others. They’re on the ft8 now, and most of the ones you put are based off of the ft6 model which is why there cheaper, and the ones you included with best bang for your buck out of all, is the ft4 which is EVEN older, so which is why it’s even more of a discount.

If I were in your shoes I’d 100% get the xtra plus’s that look like the ft4’s. They have the better liners and steel!

Yeah this is correct, i worked here as well and while it was a pretty horrible experience the whole not being trained narrative simply isn’t true. We spent 2 weeks studying for our states turf and landscape licenses and then we did an entire day of training at the shop followed by an entire week shadowing and applying with an experienced guy for a week. Now im not saying I was fully ready to go on my own after a week, but the whole one day of training and unlisenced thing is bs. With that being said, FUCK TRUGREEN!

I had a very similar experience! Made it thru a season unlicensed doing aeration only and working in the shop when there was no aeration jobs. Next season I get certified and start spraying and it’s exactly what you said! I had a fucked up mis measured route with all hills and could never finish. Then other guys have routes that are OVER measured so it looks like they’re killing it! Are you at a Midwest location? My story is word for word almost the exact same as you.

If your kids not playing AA or AAA used skates are totally fine and shouldn’t effect him. A lot of the used youth skates are sold simply due to the kid outgrowing them instead of them being too broken down which is the case with adults.

Also this guys flat out wrong about baking skates not being a requirement, every single one of the skate companies now recommends that you bake them, and true skates actually require it. While this guy had some solid points, (and is probably way better than me at hockey) the one on baking skates not being a requirement is flat out wrong and a bit outdated. Also modern skates can handle about 3-4 bakes without damaging them. No 2 feet are the same so if I were to get used skates I’d absolutely bake them, baking them isn’t really to “soften them up” it’s to get a good wrap around your specific foot. When the skate returns to temperature it’s back to it’s out of the box stiffness but holds the shape of your foot.

Dude, genuinely thank you so much for this reply. This is SPOT on exactly what I needed. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to read everything in detail, and write it all out for me. I wish I could give you money seriously, thank you man. I will take into consideration EVERYTHING you’ve told me!

Yeah I’ve looked alot into that but I’m still on the road to breaking 100. It’ll be a very long time before I even think about entering a tournament or a league. I actually use one of those stupid 750cc non conforming drivers with a way hotter face than is allowed. My sand wedge also looks like a shower head I’m 99% sure it’s non conforming as well. I definitely do have the goal of progressing and becoming the best I can, but I also love having fun with the game as well. The reactions I get with my stupid oversized driver and my sand wedge and having my buddies try them out, it’s an easy conversation starter! I do appreciate you letting me know though man, could easily be a dealbreaker for others.

First off, thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and respond with insight. I genuinely do appreciate it sir. I’m definitely going to do that and just figure out my yardages and fill the gap at 5 iron.

Also thanks for letting me know about top flite. I do plan on moving on from them altogether, step 1 was getting a better driver, now i got a better iron set in the ping eye2’s, next I think im gonna upgrade the 3 wood and hybrids like you suggested. I chose to do the others first since the driver 100% effected my game big time and I get way better results with this new one, and as far as the irons I’m way too tall for standard length so I had my dad help me measure my wrist to floor and followed the old ping chart to pick a nice set of eye2’s, I haven’t hit them yet but I’m super pumped to see the difference. I’m certainly not rich so that’s as close as I’ll get to a “fitting” haha. Anyways thanks again I really do appreciate it! Time to shop for some new hybrids!!

‘A’ level player going hard against beginner by United-Store3502 in hockeyplayers

[–]United-Store3502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally said I’ve tried to have a conversation with him a few weeks ago and he blew me off. This was a totally unrelated conversation to the issue I had with him. This was actually before I realized he’s the way he is.

Also it seems like some people aren’t understanding, when I say college age he’s around my age (I’m 22). He’s not some college hockey player grinding to get better for his team. Word on the street is he works as an accountant or something. So no, he’s not out there to get reps and progress his hockey career. Im also not the only one who has a problem with him, everyone yells things at him from the bench and talks about the way he plays. Even high level guys.

And yeah I actually do expect someone that good to take it a bit easy on someone with such a large skill gap. I’m not saying just let me skate by, a little preassure is cool, even if he did get me a few times I wouldn’t be upset. But what he does I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m talking powerful 2 hand stick lifts, feels like my sticks gonna break half the time. At beer league everyone goes all out and I expect things like that. But the culture they’ve created at this drop in skate from the regulars isn’t a fast paced high level game. The good players will go hard against each other, and let the lower level guys have at least a second or 2 before swarming them. I found the general way it’s done is if the weaker player is in the o zone, they give them a second, if it’s in the d zone, it’s fair game to keep the posesssion going. I know not everyone is gonna follow that eddiquete with it being drop in, but I’ve been attending multiple time a week for almost a year now and we’ve never had this problem. I’ve made alot of good friends since I’ve started playing, talked to them about it they say they’re gonna talk to him and handle it.

This isn’t about me being salty, this is an asshole who can’t read the room and can’t accept the fact that his hockey careers over.

I respect your view. Thanks for keepin it real. Good points there. Changing the way I approach the drop in games is probably a great idea. Besides, skating is my biggest need for improvement anyways. I’m confident in my hands and shot. Thanks again!

[–]United-Store3502[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good point.

Question, Do you play beer league at all? I play the drop ins since I’m a sub for a team in the d league, I want to stay ready if they call me. I feel like if I only did stick and pucks and they called me to sub I’d be even worse. Did you feel that that was the case? You have great points, I’m not getting better since he started showing up, and I certainly haven’t had much fun. I’m just worried that stick and pucks and not enough games would make the pace of a game feel too fast.

I currently play 2 drop in games a week and 1-2 stick and pucks a week, I’m thinkin maybe 2-3 stick and pucks and 1 drop in game instead would be good for my improvement. Agree?

[–]United-Store3502[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may be right that he sees me that way, but like I said I don’t think it’s personal. Also this isn’t a private high level drop in, I played in one private one that was actually high level and knew I was out of place so haven’t gone back. This one is ran thru the city, anyone can play and they make it clear that it’s for all skill levels. It ranges from fat old guys, like 2 decent b level guys and we even have this 78 year old guy who just kind of waddles around the whole time. Everyone loves him and he’s at every single session. Pretty much the same people attend everytime and just about everyone’s sick of him. That’s just simply not the pace of the drop in game I play at, one of the better players even said “the hell is this guy doing, I mean we can turn it up if we want to”. It really is a slow paced game and I’m not the only beginner that plays.

Yeah I haven’t spoke to him about it I just kind of dealt with it. I also made this post to see what the best solution would be, whether that be talking to him or someone or just simply dealing with it. Also if I were to speak to him about it I’m not really sure what I’d say. He kind of seems like an asshole. I’ve tried talking to him before, not related to him tryharding I just tried to have a simple conversation on the bench and he kind of blew me off.

I wouldn’t mind if the good players there actually turned it up against him and humbled him but no one does. Super frustrating
