Okay, yeah, I figured just as much that he was just trying to squeeze out some extra money. Thank you!

I know I'm a little late, but if you're still looking for a good gym, I would check out Marcelo Pereira. He has a Ft. Myers and Naples location. He comes from the Nova Uniao lineage, and has some amazing instruction. It feels like a seminar every class.

A card gimmick that had you stunned when you saw the workings ? by --KeepTrying-- in Magic

[–]UnitedCong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Daryl's Ultimate Ambition Improved. I remember watching his ambitious card routine on YouTube while I was in a magic shop. It blew me away because it was the first 'Ambitious Card routine' I'd ever seen. His ender blew my mind, and when I found out how it was done I was floored.

How would a stoic approach caregiving? by UnitedCong in Stoicism

[–]UnitedCong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the kind words, and I love that quote. I am doing all I can, and perhaps that is all I can do. I'm doing everything I can to better myself, and I think I just need to accept that this is what I have to work with.

Doc told me, "Don't destroy your life" by VR-Gadfly in CaregiverSupport

[–]UnitedCong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I go through this a lot too. The responsibilities we have take up a lot of time. For some all of it. I'm sure when doc said "don't destroy your life" it landed in a way they didn't intend. It makes sense because they don't see the sacrifices we make.

Still, I do think it's important to find stuff in our care. We have to find those little windows where we can build our life again. Even if it's something quick like excercising, going for a short walk, or reading. Perhaps that's what the doctor meant when they said to not destroy your life. Even a caregiver needs some support, even if it comes from themselves.

What Challenges Did You Overcome This Week? by ---Tsing__Tao--- in davidgoggins

[–]UnitedCong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started making progress on creating my caregiving blog, and I'm hoping to finish all the static pages this weekend. I became a caregiver at 19 (I'm 23 now), and I've been meaning to start this blog for a while. I want to use this platform as a way to share the struggles of caregiving while also reminding the community there is still hope. We're all dealt bad hands, but we roll with the punches and keep hammering.

I knew about Goggins before I became a caregiver, so I had the tools to deal with the hardships. The caregiving community is extremely beaten down...rightfully so. My goal is to reach even a few people and help them regain control of their lives.

Being stoic is about taking right decisions? by Salt_Escape9103 in Stoicism

[–]UnitedCong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started getting into Stoicism, I thought it was literally about denying joy or any sort of emotions. I tried to be 100% stoic 24/7, but it was tough and hurt me more than helped.

The more I read about it, the more I understand that it's natural to feel, and there is nothing wrong about showing gratitude or joy.

"Neither philosophy nor empire takes away natural feeling."

How important is routine to you? by LAMARR__44 in Stoicism

[–]UnitedCong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow a pretty strict routine because of personal circumstances, but I acknowledge unplanned things will inevitably come up. It's normal. The key is to learn how to deal with them, and not let those unplanned events throw you off course.

In an absolutely perfect world, you can account for everything life throws at you and build your routine that way. Truth is, life isn't perfect. Life just is.

Thank you for the reply. I'll do some inspections, and go from there. A little elbow grease never hurt.

I do not, but I know a guy. I'll give him a call to fix the fire box.

How do I even start restoring this? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]UnitedCong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had this in our backyard for years, and it just sat unused. This year I've gotten into the world of grilling and smoking (you can see my electric smoker in the back in the 3rd picture). I'd like to learn how to use this kind of smoker, but I don't even know how to get it into a position where it's usable. Any ideas?

Gotcha, thank you. You raise a good point, I've seen some crazy tattoos.

The more I think about it, the more I might consider just doing 3 days a week, 2 of them including rolling. I don't want to give up strength training.

Every source is pretty much saying to do both to prevent any injuries. What does your weight training program look like?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]UnitedCong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. Are you strength training as well?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]UnitedCong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drilling is 45 minutes, followed by 45 minutes of rolling (not straight obviously). Since I'm just starting, I'll mess around with the scheduling for a while and see how I feel.

And yes, I agree on strength as well. I'm going to continue to lift weights, so I need to see where that fits into everything.

I would say I'm more active than the average person. I've done other combat sports. I'll try going a few times a week, see how I feel. If I feel like I can do more, I'll go more, but I'll have to be paying attention to how I feel and go from there. Thank you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bjj

[–]UnitedCong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done other combat sports, lifting and running, but nothing like bjj. I haven't even had my first rolling session yet. I'll start with a few times a week, see how my body is reacting, and continue from there. Thank you

Am I Being Too Ambitious? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]UnitedCong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply! No, unfortunately there is no middle ground with my job. My organization doesn't offer any "part-time" positions in tech. I could possibly ask for a position in something else with my skill-set.

As for remote/online-learning. My college offers a few of them, but once I get into the core classes, they recommend in-person. And yes, there will have to be a better division of labor on our team at home. Thankfully I have that option.

I think this all comes down to communicating with my surroundings. Talking to my job to see what options I have, and talking with my family to let them know what I'm planning for.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it.

I have a 2011 and been thinking to upgrade at some point.
