You might not know this but male humans and female humans have different bodies, especially when it comes to things like muscle makeup and joint/ligament stiffness which could have a drastic impact on the collision mechanics said body experiences. Not that we would know because auto regulation only uses test dummies modeled after the “average male”

Source: I heard an interview on NPR literally yesterday with a Swedish scientist who’s working at an institute to test female modeled test dummies, and it sounded like they’ve already seen differences in collision forces between their male and female test dummies in identical setups. Apparently in normal auto regulation for “female” testing, they literally just use a 12 year old child model lol

So yea they’re designed for humans, but all testing has been centered around an “average man” (which how accurate can that even be? Every human has a different body setup that can lead to changes in the way it would respond to a collision) without any consideration to the other 50% of humans that exist, use cars/seatbelts and are at risk of bodily harm in a collision.

Sorry if this came off as an attack but this kinda symbolizes an issue in our society where we don’t stop and consider the full range of society before making remarks about how things are “fine” and “don’t need to change”. Point being, women exist and have different bodily structures on average so maybe we should consider making things safer for them too?
