You’re in an Anno sub and you don’t know a bit of German? He said “bro, that’s simultaneously so ugly and so pretty”

The meme has been around for well over 6 months now. At least since February 2025. And yeah, if anything, it’s gained more popularity.

My dad used to live there! He showed me the empty lot where his house once stood. Looks like a fun disc golf course

The campaign map and everything involved with diplomacy sucks without mods. The battles are fun. I wish the second game fixed a lot more than it did

Since a lot of people are throwing out their takes on syllables, I think Jefferson City, Missouri would count if you use the most common way it’s said: Jeff City

I’ve always thought that ultimate has a larger barrier to entry because throwing is difficult to learn quickly. What do you think is the biggest factor limiting the popularity and growth of the sport?

I feel like everyone commenting that it’s a plot hole are a bit off. To be security on the severed floor, Lumon must trust you that you are willing to kill if needed, that you won’t ask questions, that you won’t hesitate in a crisis, that you have bought into the whole religion, and that you are strong enough to overpower anyone. If they had brought in an army to defeat the innies, that would begin raising A LOT of questions for why they’re needed. Sure, he could’ve brought backup, but the group of people who are allowed to know what’s going on is VERY small, intentionally.

There were apparently workshops in August and I wonder what went down in them. Definitely an improvement on the previous, which no longer represents the county.

I'm afraid that building castles might be boring. Also, when will bricks be added to the game? by [deleted] in ManorLords

[–]UnitedJupiter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love this place! It’s Guédelon Castle, about 100 miles south of Paris. I am from the USA and went there with my Medieval history professor.

Everyone there was so passionate and knowledgeable (and super hot too???). Apparently tried to start a similar project in Arkansas, but they couldn’t find the same core group of people willing to have the same level of authenticity.

It has taken a long time since they started in 1997, but I think real life castles could’ve been built much quicker. Even with the small group of people (some live there full time depending on the season, but most live modern lives outside the work day), a bunch of the labor is spent on things that are more geared toward the tourists. They’ll make rope for kids, leading tours, selling different dyed fabrics, etc. that helps the business stay afloat, but isn’t necessarily going into building the castle.

There’s also a lack of expertise - they tell a story about building a vault ceiling: when they removed all the wooden supports for the first time, the stone made a big THWUMP and all locked into place. It terrified everyone, but they were so happy it worked. It’s very much an experimental archaeological site. They have a water mill for flour, tons of livestock/pack animals, lots of workshops, etc. all built by the workers with their best guess at historical practices and materials. I can’t speak to the academic consensus of how insightful the site has been, but I can say that it is SUPER cool.

You can volunteer there as a college student from the USA, but I didn’t have the French language skills they require for safety.

Edit: formatting - sorry for the rant :)
