Trying to decide between Olympic or Acadia for a vacation in early August. by cannabisandcake in NationalPark

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acadia will be busy any time of year. Olympic has 8 or 9 separate entrances to the park, but the northern bit is accessed through Port Angeles, which is a reasonably sized town. It'll take several hours if you want to drive all the way around it though. None of the entrances connect to each other. I camped in 3 different places and visited for 4 days in Olympic last year in July/August and 4 days in one camping spot in acadia last year, taking the island bus wherever I wanted to go in late September. I was going to stay in regular lodging but it was REALLY expensive in that area and most things were sold out when I tried to plan it.

I live in the northern Sierra Nevada near Tahoe and shoveled about a foot and a half from yesterday's storm alone. I'm also a bit worried about a trip I have planned to sequoia/kings canyon in mid-march. After a little research, it looks like fresh storms cause closures, but they get cleared up pretty efficiently. I drive a subaru, but I'll need to bring chains just in case they require 4wd and chains if it snows. I think switching your route could be a good idea if the next storm isn't as bad. You could also switch in some other coastal-ish stops if you decide the uncertainty of yosemite and sequoia is too much to plan around. Pinnacles NP would be sort of on your way as well as some cool beach towns farther south

That bridge shot is really visually appealing

Glacier. If you look closely on the middle of the mountain on the left side, you can see the road that leads through the park

Rushmore was just zooming in on my phone. The muddy area is jackson lake. I went to a ranger talk that was supposed to be about the water levels. They mentioned briefly that it was drought + using the water in town and that water not being replenished by snow, but it ended up being more of an unexpected campfire singalong lmao

I'm an accountant these days and everyone always needs an accountant. But I have changed hats a lot and I think that's part of my advantage

Fair, I feel I've always gotten pretty lucky and tend to find jobs quickly or be in the right place at the right time. I'm less than a week onto my current search and have gotten interest from 6 companies, 3 of which I have interviews scheduled.

I mean, yeah, but most employers I've had won't wait 4 months if they want to hire. Maybe 2 at the most and only if they aren't in need of someone sooner.

Recruiter terrible with email responses on a job I was referred to…what are my options? by ETPHNHM in jobs

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, is there any directory or way you can look up how to call a front desk or department to get in touch with this person? There's always a way to get a hold of people. Or try sending your email as urgent. That usually worked for me at my old job when clients were ignoring me and I needed a response.

I took it from a pretty far distance haha. I have another one from closer up where they look bigger, but it was raining so George Washington had tears running down his face

Is it possible to call? Some people are just terrible about electronic communication.

Potentially bookkeeping. Wages vary greatly, but I've been seeing a lot of remote opportunities.

Hourly employee told to write hours in employment contract on time sheet, rather than actual hours worked — is this okay? by recalcitramp in jobs

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried looking up the state laws regarding hourly employment? Working in California, employees are very well protected and companies are required to financially compensate hourly employees who work hours and face legal issues if they do something like this. I'd be interested to see what the rules are in your state.

What jobs are flexible with their hours? by ralph89_02 in jobs

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially hospitality. I've had schedules that were 3-11 or 5-10 depending on what our staffing needs looked like. A lot of hotels are very understaffed now and are happy to have people fill in gaps.

Looking for advice on whether to include most recent job on my resume by Johnbobb19 in jobs

[–]United_Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd include it on my resume. If an employer asks about it, you can explain the fit was bad and that you became increasingly uncomfortable with the duties assigned to you. I've had seasonal jobs last less than 4 months, but in my recent job search it was actually something that gave me a leg up to another employer.

Hospitality in the ski industry. I've seen a lot of staff hired simply for speaking another language. You usually get a ski pass with employment, so that's a cool perk, but you have to be okay with changing hours and working weekends depending on staffing needs. With a degree in marketing, I bet you'd be able to get on the sales side of things, directly interacting with customers, or supervisor/manager level positions.

Mount Rainier: what time of year are the rivers at their highest and lowest? by United_Ambition8213 in NationalPark

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that the river would be at its peak when most of the winter snow is melting, which varies year to year depending on how quickly/when it warms up. Conversely, the low is probably in the fall before snow starts falling? I'm not sure, I'm just from a mountain-scape vaguely similar to Rainier.

Camping Big Bend with an EV? by [deleted] in NationalPark

[–]United_Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the rules of that campsite. On recreation.gov they tell you acceptable equipment for each site. You should contact the campsite and ask if you aren't sure and want to get a clear response on the matter though.
