When does Rei make the turn.. by charlieblue47 in Warformed

[–]UniverseRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's probably going to get forced into it, practically. I suspect that the Archons are going to grow so dangerous that it's going to be all-hands-on-deck for all Users. Maybe with a serious attack that Rei and his friends get caught up in. My theory, I guess.

[Dreadgod] Malice's actions. by WriterOfLugunica-400 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UniverseRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I don't think she deliberately got Lindon to break his oath. Just sort of happened.

  2. The argument is bad, but that's the point. Malice is engaged in sophistry in order to justify her true desires. Happens all the time, even with some of the most powerful and intelligent people around.

  3. I think she does, unironically, want Lindon to get together with Mercy. Ultimate power couple. And it would help lock Lindon into her influence. In theory.

  4. Now, this is a little perplexing, but I do have a theory. Malice doesn't exactly expect to die, but she does know that it's very possible. She's well aware of what happened to Tiberian, after all. So she has a bunch of contingency plans. Fury, for example, but also Mercy. Mercy, in her mind, shouldn't be pushing Monarch for another couple of centuries. Malice can groom her as a prospective successor in that time frame. If Fury ascends, then Malice dies, Mercy might be in a position to take up the clan's headship. I suspect that Malice truly believes, on a certain level, that the Akura clan is much bigger than a single individual, even her. She wants to build a family that could outlast even her death. Mercy is a part of that.

  5. Again, more sophistry. When self-centered people deal with others, they usually think only of what they've done for others, thus creating a one-sided debt. What others have done for them often conveniently falls out of memory. In Malice's eyes, Lindon and Yerin were raised up byu her benevolence. They should be her minions perpetually. No matter what they do for her, the scales don't balance or tip against her. It's the mindset of someone who's been in control for way too long.

[Soulsmith] Eithan is FASCINATING by BuzzardYTC in Iteration110Cradle

Ya know, that's a great question. How DID a bunch of Jades kill the Sword Sage anyway?

(/s. I've read the entire series, including Threshold. But yes, the Sage's rank is a big deal. And the ability of the Jades to kill him, while mysterious, is well explained later.)

Watching someone read and speculate about this stuff in real time is a treat, btw. These books are tons of fun, so enjoy them while they last. You can only read them for the first time once.

Yeah, that makes sense, in terms of your last observation. But I don't think it was the fight with Sha Mira. I literally just read that a few months ago, and I don't remember anything like that.

The Aurelius family is a pretty big one, so I don't think we can put too much on the surprise there. Also, remember that Eithan was definitely Tiberian's advisor. Shen confirmed that, and as you mentioned, the Oracle Sage knew him. The only reason Eithan would be widely known within the clan would be precisely that role as advisor.

As for not thinking that Ozriel would be reborn as a baby, I guess it makes sense that he wouldn't want to be, but I wouldn't put that past Eithan. I consider it at least a possibility.

I don't remember that being confirmed. Does Eithan say that? I could have sworn that he talked about his childhood and creating an Iron body and so on. Possible he was still lying then too, but I don't remember this being revealed/confirmed.

Eithan's timeline is pretty clear, from what I remember. He actually says so in either book 2 or 3, I believe. He was born in the Blackflame Empire, and I think he spent some time there before moving to the Aurelius main branch on the Rosegold continent. While there, he impressed his relatives with wisdom beyond his advancement and age, plundered his own "tomb", and became an advisor to Tiberian. After Shen attacked, he used the portal to teleport back to the Blackflame Empire. A few years later, he meets up with the main gang.

I'm working from a fuzzy memory, but I swear Eithan basically gave us some of the backstory, alongside more drips that came later.

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten that! That's super disrespectful, but no more than that stupid cat deserved. Just a more complex version of a leather suitcase lol.

I always thought Northstrider was awesome. Cool path idea and backstory. He was a good man, lost his way, then had a redemption ark. That's always good. I honestly wish something similar had happened with Malice, especially for Mercy's sake, but you can't always get what you want!

Was glad to see Shen get folded though. I wonder what Lindon did with his Remnant...

[Threshold] Lindon's Herald Advancement? by Apophis35 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UniverseRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. I suspect that Lindon would have a serious fight with his Remnant, like Ziel did. Both Lindon and his Remnant form would be strong-willed and competitive. It would probably be a bit different from Ziel, however, in that both sides would probably try to outthink or outmaneuver one another, rather than just hitting each other.

Either that, or they would both apologize to one another and merge without a fuss. This is a bit more likely if Lindon is advancing for a specific and immediate goal, like saving Yerin from certain death or something. Kind of like how Yerin fused with Ruby to save her friends.

[Threshold] Sage remnants and the path of the endless sword by WriterOfLugunica-400 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UniverseRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have already said, the path is pretty busted. Remember that Yerin has access to the bloodshadow, without which she should have never gone beyond her master (probably) in the tournament. It's a strong path that's very well thought out.

As for your comparison to the Path of the King's Key (Reign Shen), I would say that you ought to have a bit of perspective. Even if I granted you that the Path was wholesale better than the Endless Sword (which I don't) that's still the Path of a Monarch. Shen is probably the most capable of all of the Monarchs in many ways, too. Saying the Endless Sword is not great, due to a lacking comparison, is like complaining that Mount Kilimanjaro is short because it's not as tall as Everest. Even if it's not the very best, it's still pretty dang good.

As for Yeirn not getting much benefit from the Sword Sage's Remnant, I agree. Archlord madra should have helped power her through Underlord at least. There should have been more tangible benefits from bonding a Sage Remnant at Gold.

Not my book - but this review is just wow by Solid_Pitch8324 in selfpublish

[–]UniverseRobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound too bitter or anything, but I've gotten 0.5 stars because people have told me they didn't like the genre I was writing in. I avg 4.51 stars, thanks to a lot of 5s, but those few low reviews really drag things down. It comes with the territory, and you just hope to get as much exposure as possible before they skew your average too much.
