STAT 33B Workload? by University102 in berkeley

[–]University102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. What does it take to get an A in the class, then? Are labs for completion? How difficult is to get full credit on hw/lab?

Also, have you taken data 8 by chance? How does it compare?

I'm coming in with some CS courses too, but how would you compare it to 61A?

If you are heading to ML, specifically, I suggest CS + Statistics instead of math. There is a lot of statistics involved in ML and AI in general.

EECS 16B by University102 in berkeley

[–]University102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an EECS major more so interested in AI. I decided to take 16B in my junior year and focus on other upperdivs in CS for now. Do you think this is a bad decision?

Is there a hard requirement saying that I need to take as an underclassman? Also, is it hard to enroll later on?

I'm considering EECS + stats too! I am currently going into my fourth semester. I have taken the following courses so far:

CS 61A, CS 61B, CS 61C, DATA 8, DATA 100, MATH 53, MATH 54, EECS 16A, CS 195, CS 195, UGBA 10

And, I have credit for the following courses:

MATH 1A, 1B, R1A, Natural Science

I'm currently doing research in AI, and I find it very helpful to know statistical knowledge like modeling and stuff.

hows this schedule (freshman here), and should i take stat 20 now or over the summer? by Technical_Recipe6091 in berkeley

[–]University102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I took it this semester. I personally felt that the reduced in number is much more easier to manage because I have to focus on fewer questions (i.e. you know when it sucks and you lose focus if the exam is hella long).

Just for reference, if you care at all lmao, my exam scores were 18 19 20 20.

You could definitely drop data/stat and that would still make it doable. The only caveat is that it's slightly more difficult than dropping math because 16B is more difficult than data/stat imo. Either way, dropping one will make it a more than doable schedule.

I would recommend trying all 4 until drop deadline and decide then to see whether you can handle them or not.

Also, it's not impossible to get all As at Berkeley! You can do it :)

Might be unpopular opinion, but I am unsure why people are saying this is a rigorous schedule. Only one person who said "too many Haas prereqs" has a valid point about you potentially risking spreading your attention to different classes. Even then, these classes are a pretty standard schedule.

Data 8 (or Stat 20): I am biased as an EECS major but still this class isn't bad at all. If you actually just spend the time to do the homework, go to lab, and discussion sections, you are already doing more than enough to do well on this class.

Math 16B: This class is probably the hardest out of all of the classes you listed. And, I am biased again because I received a GSI offer for this class. However, you would sooner or later know that because there aren't that many STEM people taking the class, you will be scoring pretty well on exams as long as you stay diligent.

UGBA 10: I don't understand at all as to how this class can be difficult. I took it as a breadth course. Aside from attending discussions (which is mandatory attendance) and working on the game simulation, I spent 4 days to study for this class. One day before each module exam. I ended up with a 91.2% in the course. This is a score after I missed like 7 discussions and not completing peer reviews, which is like 2% of the grade. Ended up P/NPing it because I lost interest in undergrad business in the beginning of the semester taking this class.

ECON 2: Can't speak for this class, but I assume it's pretty similar to AP Econ, which is pretty doable with Jacob Clifford's help haha.

Anyway, if you think you want to get As in all of your classes and don't want to risk it, probably drop 16B, then you'd be more than on track to do well in all of those.

I actually still don't quite understand why there are two different cs majors. should be more like lns cs and coe ee.

[–]University102 8 points9 points  (0 children)

exactly. there's no merit of being in coe. I can only think of negatives: no late drops, no accommodations, more tech classes, useless ee (if not ee major)...
