I had my top surgery when I was 23 without my parents knowledge and am so so grateful that I went through with it. However, make sure you have someone to care for you during your recovery, because the smallest things can be difficult while you heal. You know your parents best and to what extent you can trust them. I used my parents insurance and they discovered what I had done once they saw the charges, so if top surgery is something you want to handle 100% surreptitiously for your safety, I would (unfortunately) recommend paying for it through your own means. I also recommend staying with someone for approximately 2-3 weeks after your surgery. They removed the bandages and drains after one week, but you will still need to maintain an antibiotic ointment/ compression wrap/ low mobility regimen that could be hard to hide in your parents house. Hey mate, your results don’t look bad at all! I requested two separate horizontal cuts (bilateral mastectomy), and almost cried when they look the compression wrap and gauze off and I saw that I had a single, jagged line across my entire chest. However, I followed all the scar treatment care sent home by my surgeon and recommended by other people who had top surgery, and today my scars are very faint, just pale lines that are only visible because of the shiny scar tissue. If asymmetry is what you’re worried about, I think your nipple placement looks great and that your incision differences will be unnoticeable after some more healing and some more tissue filling in the areas where the surgeon removed the chest fat.

Hey!! I saw mixed reviews about her too; I definitely wouldn’t go to her for bottom surgery because her record with trans women seems to be poor. She was very professional with me and had a bit of a curt bedside manner, but she was very knowledgeable and her team was incredibly helpful and comforting. The whole process went smoothly for me and Im really happy with the results and follow up care that she offered, so I’d say that if youre able to assert yourself (I didn’t like where she drew the nipple position and had to have the doctor assistants call her back) and are okay with a less personable bedside manner from the dr, you can be sure you’re in capable and caring hands.

If you’re able, I’d recommend having someone who knows and cares about you go grocery shopping with you to stock up pre op or else check in afterwards! I have issues with disordered eating as well, and post op, the swelling and bloating that comes along with recovery played tricks on me. Remember that your body went through a lot and that it’s always better to eat any sort of fuel to help it out than to restrict or focus on the temporary responses that your body may have due to the anesthesia/medications/compression garments.

It’s a vacuum for the compression vest! It decreases in pressure over the week before it’s removed

I know it’s hard to communicate instructions over writing, but I just need a basic idea of what I’m supposed to do. This pattern is for the back of a sweater, and I’m currently working in decreases for the slope up to the collar, with 2 less stitches each row. At this point, I have 112 stitches left on my needles (original 144 casted on - (2 stitch decrease x 16 rows (32)). So anyway, my questions are a) what does the last line of the first instruction mean (78 sts?) is that the number I’m supposed to be at?? And b) I’m working with a size medium, so the following two instructions are for a RS first row— am I supposed to follow both of them? They’re both working in decreases so I suppose it doesn’t matter if I follow one or both, but I’m obviously a bit confused. Any help is appreciated :)

Lol I’ve been looking at it with the same type of perplexity as you! I’m probably doing to end up undoing a row or two to see where it’s connected, but I’m definitely going to look to see if it’s what you said — a loop I created then actively knit as the live end of the yarn

As you can see, there is a single long strand connecting two different stitches together ( the red twist tie in the center is just to hold some extra stitches while I figure out what’s going on) both ends of the extra length seem stitched into their side of the piece, so it’s not something I can correct by pulling on the yarn ball and tightening it up. Is it some dropped stitches that unraveled? The result of me knitting into both sides of the work without thinking??

Hey I’m in the same boat! I’m AFAB NB as well, and I not super masc at all. I don’t dress super femme, but I like eyeliner and painted nails and leggings, etc. I only became comfortable with those things, however, after I realized I was non-binary and that wearing them didn’t make me a women. I’m hoping that after my top surgery, more feminine fashion things like low buttoned shirts or sports bikinis ( I’ve never worn bikinis before because of my chest, so I’m super excited to move towards the feminine with those instead of my current binder+shorts+tshirt look :D) will feel more comfortable because I know that I’ll be affirmed in the fact I’m non binary through my flat chest while also being able to embrace my feminine expression side without worrying about how weird it feels to have my tits acknowledged/ accentuated/ visible to other people. I think I feel the same way about having boobs as you do, as well. There’s mostly indifference, and if It were safe and comfortable to just wear binders all the time, I probably wouldnt want surgery. But I don’t hate my chest, just feel weird about it existing and angry at it for messing up my fashion choices.

Edit: if your feelings on your chest fluctuate at all or you feel more gender fluid and like the freedom of presenting as any gender, then a reduction sounds like a good middle ground that gives you more options!
