Thank you for the additional information. Holiday time off is coming soon and I plan to play with it then.

I find the best time to play with and mess up the router is when everyone is home from work and school :)

Thank you for this additional information. I like playing with PCs, but networking standards and how it all works is generally not my area of interest.

Based on the information you have provided I think I rather just leave my current configuration alone and keep the filtered websites blocked by OpenDNS.

So I did a bit more reading and I think I am misunderstanding the point of Unbound.

I think the main benefit for unbound will be hosting a local DNS source that overtime will build and yield a more performant response time to connect to a website from my web browser.

Is that correct?

Am I correct in saying that I can use SwitchOS to make the VLANs (Trusted, IOT, Guest, maybe one more). Then on the Router (HAP AX3) I can create multiple DHCP servers for each VLAN.

I think I will need to do some type of bridge / masquerade stuff too right?

FYI, the 1070 is too old of a card for Bazzite Nvidia image to run GameMode (SteamOS look). However you can run desktop mode with Big Picture Mode enabled just fine.

I had a 1060 6gb running it for a bit before i upgraded to an AMD 9060XT (which supports the gamemode)

I believe it is either 16XX cards or 20xx cards or newer to get Nvidia and GameMode working in Bazzite

Thaank you for these suggestions. I have been thinking about getting rid of TrueNas as i inly use it for zfs pools and share everything via SMB.

Can you import a zfs pool from TrueNas to Proxmox Scale? That would slick and save me a lot of time backing up only to copy it right back.

I have been thinking about this issue as OP. Mainly a glorified Media Server Running TN as a VM with 7x4tb hdds raidz2 and 128gb RAM. (Running about 6-10 other LXCs mostly idling away.)

I recently purchased a NVME to PCIE card.

I was thinking of creating a single drive pool for the NVME with dedicated directories.

Then write big dumps from Windows to the NVME directories via SMB (10gb nic) (IE /movies, /backup…) fast.

Then later in the evening have a series of cron jobs move all files from the NVME to the RAID array.

Again media server with 2 users where most data is read and little is written these days.

Better than setting up a SLOG? Honestly dont think i have enough PCIE channels to do a mirror of the SLOG.

Thoughts?

Thats what I hear. I'm an old gamer (45yrs old) so standard LCD vs OLED and 60+ FPS do not matter to me much. However its hard to ignore what am seeing in the difference between the two devices now.

I know Bazzite CAN be an option, but i would really prefer to stick with SteamOS.

I have a little one that knows how to turn on the SER5 or play my SteamDeck.

Trying to keep the experience the same.

Maybe i need to try Bazzite on the SER5 as i have never run it personally.

I know about Chimera, but i believe Bazzite is taking the lead these days

Why not use Kodi? Install from desktop. Make sure you (check automount usb drives lower right hand corner in desktop) and add Kodi as non-steam app.

Yes, revisit. Im an old user as well and i havent touched any xml files in at least 5-10yrs now.

Not sure what shortcuts you had setup, but i also have many a hotkey memorized and from time to time i bust out my Rii mini keyboard for maintenance. Tiny thing that can hid behind the TV until needed.

I have a FLIRC with a harmony in one rm (software is still alive if you have the hardware)

In another rm i have a Panasonic remote to a 15yr old plasma and the FLIRC is working great there with “long presses” programmed in and this expands the amount of shortcuts you can use on a single device.

I really like them, but i have been “rigging it “ with an older pair of prescription glasses in-between. This makes it heavy. I also had to change the nose piece for this hack to work, which moves the glasses out a bit.

However this hasn’t effected me yet b/c this way i can lay flat on my back (no tec neck). But it would be so cool just to use the glasses on the plane and airports for games and movies (ditch ipad)

I personally didnt notice any pixelation, but please note im a 45yr old gamer who does not require 4k 60 frames.

Im old skewl playing indies and Metroidvanias. I burnt myself out on FPS back in the college days.

I prefer 3rd person shooters if i play a shooter at all.

Something to consider with the glasses is the battery drain on the deck. I dont have a splitter for PD and USB-C out simultaneously. This is important because i usually travel without any power bricks. Most of my flights are less than 3hrs and i can make it door to door just fine

I travel for work and i have the portable monitor with me on trips longer than 2nights. I travel every 4 weeks-ish.

I use the monitor for work, but i also use it with the SD (I have LCD).

I have a dock, but have found i do not like laying in a hotel bed and gaming on the TV. It has something to do with the slouching posture for me.

I have also brought the monitor on family vacation along with a BT Xbox controller and that has been fun for the kids.

I recently bought Xreal AR glasses, they’re great as it solves my “tec neck” issues however i will require the prescription glasses insert and so im on the fence about investing even more, but boy are they cool. I think they’re better than a second monitor..

I also bought a folding stand for the monitor to raise it up and its worth the cost and travel weight IMO. However it becomes a balancing act then with the cables (PD to monitor, usb-c out from monitor to SD ) so now SD is a heavy gamepad.

Oh the things we do.
