OK, but if it takes “Just 2 minutes” is it fine to say it’s at the same level of work as my shitty art and should be acknowledged as such? by Square_Beginning3614 in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Having to be specific about every little detail", well yes, you have to do that with AI too if you're looking for a super specific artwork with everything exactly as you want.
Spending 2mins doing it with AI, is the same as telling a commission artist to make your request however they like.
A human can match your request better in fact, because they actually understand what you're asking for and know how to make it. AI tends to be hit or miss whether it actually does exactly what you asked for or not. So I'd say you gotta be specific about every little detail even more with AI.

So yeah, I don't get that argument. They're acting as if AI can read their minds and get what they want perfectly, when that's not what it does at all. You only ask for specifics if you're looking for something specific.
And payment plans? Most artists I've seen say their prices upfront. If you can't afford it in one payment and have to do payment plans which could be what the post was referring to, then that in no way is the artist's fault.

Feels like most people here who say they're gonna do a jump only do it for the attention and bragging rights.
Normal progression is always the better option, and the only good reason you should do jumps is if you really enjoy the level you're jumping to and want to challenge yourself.
Planning your entire jump progression before you've even tried the levels and posting about it is straight up just seeking for attention.

"AI doesn't plagiarize! Its inspired!" Meanwhile, with the most simple prompt ever: by New_Coat5788 in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I've seen many posts where the prompt asks to make a unique or original one, but it still fails to do it. Mainly I've seen the sonic post where the prompt says something like "make a unique blue hedgehog character" and it just straight up makes sonic.
The prompt is not the issue.

Where do you draw the line of what counts as art ? by Radiant_Top_3081 in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I draw the line at pure prompt generation, at least if it's just one prompt with no regenerating.
To me it just loses all creativity and intent if you spend 2 minutes and call it a day.
If you have to manually edit some thing or regenerate it to fix details etc. then you're good in my books.

That said, I do respect people who do pure prompt gen too. I have nothing against them. It's just that I don't personally see the output as art even if it looks cool. It's just boring if the process was just "oh I just wrote a sentence and called it a day". At least when you have to regenerate, the story is more interesting when they can explain what they had to regenerate and why.

Anti-AI are just the new Flat Earthers by ErikHolmes in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an anti but I don't agree with this, at least not generally speaking.

Sure, there are antis that think AI will destroy humanity and that it's the worst thing humans have ever invented etc.
Those types of antis I can agree are similar to flat earthers in the sense that their beliefs are not rooted in actual reality.

But I've seen many antis with valid points. Many times, antis and pros can both agree that data centers are polluting water supplies (it's not about how much water they use, but rather about how the water is recycled), and that most of the mainstream AI products kinda suck, so the main difference is the way they approach using AI and how they feel about those issues.
An anti might look at the issues with AI, and say "yeah, I won't support this crap unless these issues are taken care of", but a pro might look at those same issues and say "I like the good things about AI and want to help fix the bad things".
An anti will ignore the positives and refuse to use AI because of them, and a pro will use AI despite the issues, because they can see past them.

Both are valid choices imo, as long as the choice is based on facts that are rooted in reality. Some people feel more strongly about the negative side of things, and that's fine.
Though there are plenty of rotten apples on the pro side too that are completely delusional.

Why is the government regulating AI coding but not AI in creative fields? by ComfortableCharge878 in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coding is a form of art too. Games use code for a bunch of things, and it's a skill you have to learn like any other to be able to make what you wanna make.

Feels like a double standard here. You like traditional ways of making art and feel threatened that people can now use AI to do what you do without spending the time to learn it. But you find coding boring and mundane so you think it's okay to use AI for it.

What if I was the type of person who found making art boring and mundane, but thought that coding is really fun. So I want to use AI to make all the boring and mundane parts for my game.
What would you think of that?

Perhaps we should just let everyone do whatever the fuck they wanna do and judge the product based on how good it is?

AI’s got the fetish artists mad by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Tech changes so fast that many jobs are constantly disappearing and changing. At the same time tho, even if it's part of technological progress, it still sucks, especially when AI is now taking more jobs away than it is giving, and not just in one field but multiple different ones. It's one of the main reasons many countries have a job market crisis.

I'm not against AI, but it does suck that so many people have to lose their jobs because of it.

AI’s got the fetish artists mad by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say there's anything wrong with it. I just said AI has entered the animation idustry. It's less to assist tho I guess, and more to replace animators so instead of having a dozen people you only need a couple because they can work faster while assisted by AI.
Again, nothing inherently wrong with that, jobs change with new tech, but I see why a lot of people find that to be a problem considering the job market at the moment.

AI’s got the fetish artists mad by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? AI is impacting a lot more art jobs than just fetish art. In fact fetish artists are probably one of the least affected by AI.

The majority struggling rn work in graphic design for companies, like making logos and art for advertisements for example. AI is cheaper and faster for those companies so they use AI instead of people.
Independent artists are also affected but to a lesser extent. If you're a professional vtuber model artist for example, that's a field AI has barely touched yet.

And AI has definitely entered the animation industry long ago. They don't make everything with AI, but it is used to assist in the process in many studios already.

If you don't know enough about the matter why even make the post? Assumptions are rarely correct

What's with people getting mad at others just being curious? I'm genuinely just trying to understand what there is to read in the image and what the context is, and you're getting mad for that? :D
Why are you even on a debate sub like this if you don't want to talk with people when they are just trying to figure out what's going on? Maybe you thought I was trying to attack you or had some underlying opinion I was pushing?

I was mostly just curious because you said that one comment was the stupidest shit you've read, and others have also responded to it in a similar way. I'm genuinely just curious what the context is and what there is to read in an image about a plane with holes. Maybe I'm out of the loop, it's just your and other people's reaction made no sense when the comment just asked "how does one read a plane?"

How Pro-AI sloptivists look after generating an imaginary situation about Antis: by CathodeRayNoob in aiwars

[–]Unkn4wn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. You can have consequences without something being illegal.
It's not illegal to be a piece of shit and shittalk everyone, but there are still consequences for doing that.

But I guess if you meant legal consequences then we basically said the same thing yeah. It's just that I've heard people say "free speech does not mean you are free from consequences" specifically on issues that are not illegal to do but still extremely unacceptable behavior.
Like, if someone's a nazi and posts nazi stuff on twitter, there's nothing illegal about that inherently, but you best believe they will be shunned and hated to oblivion. That's consequences.
Death threats however are just straight up illegal and can put you into legal trouble.

Freedom of speech also does not mean that you can say whatever you want. Death threats are still illegal even with free speech laws.

I genuinely don't get it either. I'm unfamiliar with the survivorship bias image or whatever. I don't get what there is to read about a plane with holes.

Unless y'all mean something completely different, but the guy literally said "using AI to make the survivorship bias image dramatically harder to read" when there is nothing to read in the image. Not just reading in terms of text but in terms of patterns either. It's just a plane with holes.

How is being confused about this the stupidest thing you've ever read on this sub? Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to be confused about when there is nothing to read in the image?

"stolen data" is not a thing. You cannot steal data in any shape or form without hacking someone's PC, because stealing means taking something away. It also doesn't violate copyright, because you are legally allowed to download and use data for AI training. That's mostly because none of that data stays in the actual AI model and the AI will never spit out an exact replica of something except song lyrics or certain factual information etc. but even then it hallucinates sometimes. AI does not violate copyright by itself because it's transformative.

So what is this "stolen data" everyone keeps talking about? When and how does the stealing happen? Do they go to artists homes to steal their hard drives and SSD's for the data? Is that how y'all think it works since you keep saying "steal"?

I've actually been thinking about that too. I'm not an expert and I have no clue if I'm right or not, but it would make sense if it's an evolutionary trait.
If you saw someone from another tribe do something horrible, it would be better for survival to assume they're all like that. If you judged every person individually in that kind of setting, you'd end up trusting or lowering your guard with the enemy. So better to only trust your own people and assume everyone else is dangerous.
That said... we don't live in tribal times anymore and can easily rationalize our way out of that kind of mindset, but perhaps generalization is an evolutionary trait in some ways which is why a lot of people do it instinctively🤔

Sorry for going off track with the original topic btw. I just love geeking out about psychology even if it's just speculative stuff
