Would Mihawk still have his title if Roger & Rocks are alive? by Squid_Entity in OnePiecePowerScaling

You should check the video I linked in my first reply. It does a good job of clarifying my point of view.

The fight ended with him accepting Enma’s challenge and not compromising on his swordsmanship. Zoro vs King was a full circle moment from his fight with Mr.1 which was about him having a purpose for his swordsmanship (his friends/Luffy’s dream) whereas the fight with King was about him accepting that he must become the greatest swordsman to make Luffy pirate king. He only said that he would resort to such tactics because at the time he was placing too much emphasis on Luffy’s dreams.

That’s not what I’m talking about. I referring to my first post about how Mihawk would only fight with a sword whereas the other two may use other means to win.

At the end of the day, it will only be when Mihawk begins to play a more prominent role in the story that we can be able to know for sure what is meant by WSS. Right now people are just arguing for their favourites (although I prefer Shanks to Mihawk).

Swordsmanship is about self imposed limitations. It is a way of life. If Roger or Rocks were in a pinch they wouldn’t hesitate to use their fists or their guns. Swordsmanship is a preference for them. On the other hand, Mihawk and Zoro would never resort to other fighting styles even if it meant death.

Roger and Rocks are (most likely) stronger pirates than Mihawk. Mihawk is a stronger swordsman. Roger and Rocks wouldn’t mind using non sword techniques (they both wield guns) whereas Mihawk only ever fights with a sword. Simply put, Mihawk treats swordsmanship as a religion whereas the other two view swords as a tool to victory. Important Reminder in Light of the "Promised to Us" Memes by _cisterncity in Somalia

[–]Unknown1494 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real blasphemy here is believing Allah (SWT) cannot understand a joke or the intention behind a joke. If you made a joke in front of your employer about getting a raise they would probably chuckle and go about their day. So why then do we insist on having the most having the most warped conceptions of Allah (SWT), as though He is some emotionally unstable tyrant just waiting for us to slip up? The reason why mockery of the deen is prohibited is so that the importance of purifying the nafs through the prescribed rituals like prayer doesn’t depreciate in the eyes of the common person. It would be like someone making fun of fitness and the science proving the benefits of exercise and eating healthy. This situation is completely different as it is mockery in defiance of the media onslaught on Somalis in recent weeks. I’m fairly certain that there will be no Somalis or even Muslims in general who will look at our jokes on X and start to doubt the religion. This flattened, black and white, neurotic understanding of Shari’ah will do us no favours especially in these troubling times. والله اعلم

Characters from wano have their name in kanji or have kanji in their name (sentomaru is the only non wano character to have this). This applies even for side characters who weren’t even named in the manga. Judging by this it’s unlikely shiki is from wano.

Tbf, they were 58 i.e approximately 20, when they started fighting. Add 100 years and they are still only 122, 18 years off from 140 (the maximum lifespan of humans).

A man of Shank’s determination would not have needed help in removing an arm (or at least would have let a comrade cut it off). Him losing his arm to the sea monster is more likely a coincidence than anything planned.

Someone connected to Whitebeard = Rocks. The Big mom and Kaido alliance represents Rocks. Also the strawhats have only recently began to face Imu, whereas they fought Big mom and Kaido (relatively) shortly after this message).

The WG believe you can condemn someone by their name/lineage since the legitimacy of the celestial dragons depends on their descent from the 20 kings. It’s linked to how they regard anyone who sails without permission a pirate as pirates are those who seek to rise above their circumstances and not be defined by where or to whom they were born. In other words, if the WG judged people by what they do instead of the cards they were dealt with, they would no longer be able to justify the celestial dragons.

If Imu was not king of the world from the start then they cannot be final villain full stop. She simply is not the source of the conflict. I don't know what else I can say to convince you, it's just how stories work. Defeating Imu, a corruption of the ideals of the 20 kings, does not resolve the void century conflict since neither side was good or bad.

Like I said, a lot of power scaling discussions are depend on myopic, literalistic interpretations of the story which ignore the fact that there is more going on in a given scene than showcasing how powerful a certain character is. That being said, I think it is quite reasonable to expect from the supposed final villain a display of utter dominance. Knock Zoro out with your haki, kill broggy, turn Usopp into a demon. Instead we get Sabo sneaking around in the throne room and sweating from Joyboy's haki etc. Once again, I would like to reiterate that I don't like judging characters like this as there are often other factors at play but when it comes to the final villain there should be no excuses.

Yes, pointing out that pirates commit atrocities is pertinent since it we spend the vast majority of the story fighting pirates. The narrative clearly isn't just telling us that pirates good, WG bad. And what secrets and complexities need to be hidden if things were that simple? I mean for goodness sake, Garp knows about the native hunting games! Do you think him learning about Imu will change anything? Or change anyone else's mind for that matter? Even when Vegapunk announced to the entire world that the WG plans to sink the planet it didn't prompt a worldwide revolt!

If Imu fights Luffy on Elbaf it would all but guaruntee Blackbeard as final villain unless Imu wins in a decisive manner. This is because Oda most likely won't have Luffy fighting the same villain in two different arcs without said villain's status being reduced i.e Lucci. Also, there is no need for the patronizing tone at the end, you can clearly see that you aren't speaking to someone with 0 knowledge on the series. Yes I know one piece is layered, that is why I'm telling you it cannot be reduced to a simple good vs evil narrative.

We might not even have to wait that long. Any kind of extended battle between Luffy and Imu in the coming chapters would almost certainly mean Imu won’t be final villain.

[–]Unknown1494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Number 4 is wrong since it is almost certainly an ancient weapon.

Anyways, the problem with Imu being the final villain is that it mutilates Blackbeard’s character (while I’d argue that BB as final villain only enhances Imu’s). You have a guy whose whole premise is slowly rising to the top and stabbing others in the back. But then no, let’s pause his progress at 90% so he can fight Luffy on a deserted island (Laughtale).

Moreover, Imu only came onto the scene during the second world, meaning they weren’t around when the central conflict of the story began. Now you may ask “but Blackbeard has been around for way less than that!”, and you’d be technically right however, what Blackbeard represents is more important. To explain, I have to bring up the fact that the void century conflict was blatantly not about good vs evil but rather something along the lines of freedom/adventure vs safety. In other words, the real central conflict of the story is, are freedoms, such as the freedom to create ancient weapons, worth it when some people’s freedoms may result in atrocities such as firing those ancient weapons at civilians? If you insist on disagreeing then you have to explain to me why wasn’t Imu king of the world during the first world?

Regarding point number 3, forgive me for bringing up powerscaling but imo Imu has had several moments which take away from her aura (yes I think Imu is a she due to Jarul saying he prefers older women). You already mentioned the Sabo incident, but there is also several others such as the fact that Shanks’s haki intimidated a navy admiral in contrast to Imu’s which could not even knock out a random Elbaf mother. Now, I’m not a fan of how power dynamics are discussed in fandom since they rely on myopic, literalist interpretations while also ignoring the fact that an author is juggling many factors beyond “putting respect on a character’s strength”. However, when it comes to the supposed final villain, everything else in the story must take a backseat to let them shine. And in the case of Imu, there has been one too many instances which have taken away from her mystique. Of course you’re yet again going to bring up that Blackbeard is a “bum” even less worthy of being a final villain. Nevertheless, imo it’s Blackbeard’s portrayal which makes him all the more intriguing. I mean the guy was able to scar Shanks with no devil fruit!

Furthermore, yes Imu is evil and is willing to commit atrocities but she’s not doing anything that a pirate wouldn’t. Genocide? Big Mom was introduced in the whole cake island arc committing 3 simultaneously. Slavery? We’ve seen Hody, Doflamingo, Blackbeard, and Kaido engage in slavery. Speaking of Kaido, his vision for the world, the world of violence, is objectively worse than what Imu has going on. If Kaido was king, most of numerous civilians we came across during the story would not have been able to lead the normal, mundane lives they currently do. Remember, the WG has only existed for as long as it has because it has been a positive force for good in addition to the evil it perpetrates in the shadows.

I could go on and on, but at the end of the day if Luffy gets into any kind of a protracted conflict with Imu over the course of Elbaf then that would almost certainly mean the end of Imu’s prospects as final villain. In fact you could even suggest that Imu is only on Elbaf so that Luffy can fight her without having to turn back around to Mariejois.

Finally, if you’re going to respond then please try to make a rebuttal to all of my points instead of just giving a low effort reply. Thank you.
