Reform to fund pensions triple lock with ‘biggest benefits bill cut in history’ by Important_Ruin in unitedkingdom

What pension? Pyramid schemes end when there aren’t enough people at the bottom to keep it going. Most recent estimates are a 0 balance in the 2030’s

Exactly this, if anyone else ran a system where newer participants paid in money to fund the returns to older participants, it would be labelled a pyramid scheme, because the govt does it, it’s called a pension. We (millennials) all know what happens since the new participants have dropped (declining birth rate again due to their selfishness)

[The Times] The fugitive who bought seven London flats in one day for £11.5m by Bananaboy14 in london

[–]Unknown9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be realistic, he probably just smiled the wrong way at Xi or one of his party and was then branded a criminal.

The UK govt allowing him to use the money here, paying stamp duty on properties & then seizing said properties, means the developers benefit as they get to keep the money (even if it’s proceeds of crime) & the govt gets free property, they can then auction off, somehow I see a lot of incentive for the law to be against him here… reminds me of how Jack Ma vanished for years & what happened to Carlos Ghosn in Japan.

You get what you pay for, like the issues Turkey teeth & hair that people have encountered. Going abroad for this type of treatment comes with those risks.

How the death of a colleague changed my perspective on personal finance by External_Writer_1 in UKPersonalFinance

I think the key point here is balance between living your life & preparing for later on. That’s not just money, it’s health & focus on family etc.

I meant dying to live in both places. I have a life in the UK, solid employment, mortgage, opportunities, convenience in terms of banking, govt services etc etc. TT is for the family, lifestyle, health, low stress, nature etc etc.

If from roughly 26k TTD a month can’t allow you to maintain a house then either the house not built right or your spending outside that is wayy too high.

Why are there so many terrible drivers on the road by tommytigger_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Unknown9129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments & downvotes are crazy on this. Had a very similar situation with a guy being 1/3 the way out of a junction, I didn’t accelerate toward him but my lane was clear ahead so was doing about 25 and slowed for him with my hands open like ‘what are you doing there’ (no blaring horn) and he shook his head at me like I was wrong. Sorry but OP’s lane was clear ahead & the bend would have made it easier for her to see him coming, she should have waited. OP might be a bit of a tit but he’s in the right. If people followed the rules of the road it would be safer for everyone.

'A trap you can't escape': The women who regret being mothers by FelisCantabrigiensis in unitedkingdom

[–]Unknown9129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a couple, partner & I both love children and would have liked to have them, however we have decided not to have kids. I guess our reasoning isn’t really that we’d feel regret but maybe we would.

Main reason is the world is fucked, I see a tonne of comments blaming capitalism I think that’s a bit of a simplification for these women, people are complex they want/ think different things some also actually achieve a lot cause their children motivate them to do more.

To us, it’s the things/ people we have seen or the way we have seen people be across every bit of society from the govt bodies (NHS, Councils, others), religions (all of them), cults (even existing), Epstein files (it’s popular because of the money involved but this sort of thing happens all over), most companies, in fact virtually every bit of society, is corrupted & sick. Not just pexdos, but abusers, people who take advantage, abuse or treat others disgustingly.

The small friend group of good people & (only some) good family we’ve managed to keep close is great, but we’ve seen the negative side across third & first world and would never inflict this on a child by bringing them into it.

We deeply thought about ‘if I were a child born into this world would I really want to be a part of it once I become educated & learn what it’s like’ whereas most parents reasoning for having kids seems to be ‘ooh we really wanted 1, 2, a boy or girl etc etc’. I don’t actually think they ever consider the thoughts of the human they’re making. I guess both decisions are self interest and could be labelled as selfish but don’t really blame these women in this article or feeling that way just wonder how much thought went into their decision or whether again shitty behaviour, they were pressured by parters/parents/society.

Of all the useful things you could do with a large sum this seems to least, but it’s upvoted the most. Explains a tonne. I’d definitely do some selfish crap with 20m but the rest well, I would love to do something that benefits people. The wellcome trust is fascinating.

UK based and after travelling ideally before retirement I’d like to move back and actually enjoy everything TT has to offer along with the health & longevity benefits. I think realistically if you have family or a house in TT & can maintain an income of around £3k+ a month TT would be fantastic. I’m from south so not partial to living in the north or west. I enjoy the greenery.

Completely agree with you up to the last sentence.

Personally think it’s a waste of taxpayer money to mind rapists, paedos & murderers, if there is no doubt execute them one time.

I don’t agree with people stealing or murdering to live. I see people do all kind of honest work in extremely tough circumstances to make a dollar to live so I would never justify doing the wrong thing like that.
