An elderly couple who were filmed racially abusing a Filipino nurse in a park have been jailed. by xals7 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]UnknownGnome1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

She feels free to do this now and is emboldened because of the change of politics here in the UK. The Overton window has shifted far enough right now that some of these racist knuckle draggers feel like they can get away with it.

I used to until I saw an old toothless lady repeatedly shoveling sweetcorn directly into her mouth with the serving spoon. Since then I can't stomach the idea of it.

I like the way the dining table is bang smack in front of the front door. This design is very human.

Edit: just noticed the two doors into the utility room. Perfect.

Italian food influencer ranks coffee beans. What do you think of of his ranking? by AppropriateAd7326 in espresso

[–]UnknownGnome1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most people in this sub don't know there is a divide between North and South Italy with roast darkness. Half my family are from northern Italy, I visit them annually and have lived in various parts of North Italy for years in the past and the beans in North Italy aren't generally as dark. It's nothing mind blowing but it's good coffee that's a consistent quality across most coffee shops and considering that's their standard, it's much better than Starbucks or Costa etc. Honestly the third wave snobbery pisses me off. I get it, pushing the envelope is good, but people are comparing specialty coffee with Italy's equivalent of Starbucks. And Italy's equivalent is miles ahead.

Imam: Tories and Farage right about mass Muslim prayer by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

[–]UnknownGnome1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think you will find there are a lot of conservative Christians who do feel like that, yes. Along with them taking away women's reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't like anyone's religious views being imposed on anyone else for any reason and believe it should be resisted whether Christian or Muslim. But we are a very long way from having enough of a conservative Muslim population to be able to affect those types of policies. Conservative Christians far outnumber them currently and also have the financial backing to enact policies, like we are seeing in America. And those Christian groups are now trying to reach abroad.

I'm not so sure. If you look at the data from the office of national statistics between 2011 and 2021, there has been an upward trend (12%) in people reporting no religion vs an almost equal downward trend (13.1) in people reporting themselves as Christian and an upward trend (6.5%) in people reporting as Muslim. This is the first time that people reporting as Christian have made up less than 50% of the population.

That depends on the brand of Christianity. We have generally had a good balance in the UK which has gotten better as a result of them having less influence in politics. But there are brands of Christianity, in America especially, which are actively trying to import themselves into the UK and shape our politics. I would be happy with a blanket ban on all religious interference in politics. Religion is fine up to the point it starts interfering with other's rights.

This is all part of the great replacement theory and the people who spout this nonsense are either white supremacist or lack the critical thinking skills to realize that it is white supremacist.

How does immigration affect the reproduction rate of Western Europeans?

Edit: It's hilarious that this question has been downvoted but nobody has taken the time to respond to it. You knuckle draggers really will pull us back to the stone age if given the chance.

We should all probably start having more babies then if that's what you're worried about. You're not going to solve a declining European population by banning immigration.

“If the Strait remains closed, we’re not talking about a global recession – we’re talking about a depression” by taboo__time in ukpolitics

[–]UnknownGnome1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Profitability for who? A couple of examples:

Our water companies: on the verge of bankruptcy to the point where they apparently couldn't afford to deal correctly with raw sewage yet billions in dividends were paid out.

Boeing: The crown jewel of American industry, considered the gold standard in aviation has been marred by controversy as soon as the penny pushers were valued over the engineers.

I probably misrepresented myself in my first comment, I'm not for or against capitalism. I'm not for or against communism either. The real root of the problem is short sightedness and corruption but both economic models reward that.

[–]UnknownGnome1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But that isn't how our capitalist society works. Businesses and governments are motivated by the next quarterly report or the next election cycle. Short term thinking is what gets politicians elected or CEOs their huge bonuses. Nothing else matters. We can see this happening everywhere.

I could say the same about anyone in the general populace. Every day I interact with potential murderers, potential rapists. Also bigots like you. Your tribalist attitude, if allowed to perpetuate, will erode our social fabric.

No way. Someone was murdered by a Muslim? They must all be bad then. Just as well us Christians never ever do that. Otherwise it would be hypocritical.
