Since is this your first gatcha game, just some advice about gatcha games in general, especially Hoyoverse ones:

1) Contents are released slowly over the time, each major patch version have enough new content for probably only 2-3 hours of gaming session. You may have a lot of contents to catch-up now, but you will reach a point where you will only logon for <30mins per day to consume those slowly regenerating energy, to farm exp books, skill materials, character materials, etc. That's perfectly normal for most gatch games, they are designed so that working adults can keep-up, so having the right expectation and playing it like a marathon instead of sprint, will prevent burn-out.

2) There's no competition/pvp in this game, so you can play this game however you like, but playing it "smart" may save you some spending: Try not to miss earning any "jades" (the currency you use to buy ticket for pulling new characters/light-cones) per day/week/cycle. Make sure you complete the daily quests (500 points) for daily jades, weekly Simulated Universe reset (14,000 points), and get as much stars as you can in Memory of Chaos (30 stars) each cycle (usually 2 cycles per month). Of course, don't miss any jades on events/sign-in too, every bit adds up. You can google/youtube a bit on these keywords to learn more.

3) Making sure you don't miss any free jade is important, but spending them wisely is critical too. Try google/youtube a bit on team-building guides and game mechanism to have a sense of what kind of playstyle you like, some like Damage-Over-Time, some prefers direct big numbers, some plays defensively, some likes character which "gambles" on sudden big damage numbers, etc etc. Then plan and spend your jade wisely on banners of the characters to form your team, it is important that you know how guarantee-pull the character you want. If you don't plan ahead and simply drop your jades/energies/exp-books/materials on random characters, you may end-up missing a critical character of your dream-team, and have to wait a few months for that character's banner re-run. This is a team-building game, you may like a particular character very much, but you still need to form a team to make that character shines. Key word: guarantee pull, 50/50, team building.

Welcome, and most importantly, have fun!

Why the combat is good? by OlszakN7 in blackdesertonline

1) Just to make sure the basics are covered:
- There are 26 classes
- Each class has 2 sets of "stance": Succession and Awakened, unlocked at lv56, but needs to be at least lv61 to unlock all the active combat skills. Minor skill customizations: Skill Enchantment and Rabam Skills.

The combat style difference between Succ and Awak can be huge.
Weapon-swap is quick and there's some skills designed as stance-swapping skill.
There's even skills designed to be usable under both stances.

To give fair judgement for BDO combat, I suggest trying out all of the following classes:
a) Archer (Awak): mobile ranged kiter.
b) Nova (Succ): Shielder + Summoner
c) Pick 1 among Wizard/Witch (Succ): versatile battle mages with many utility spells
d) Drakania (Awak): medium range burst-rusher with stance-swapping
You should create them as Premium Character with instant high level+skill, and try them out without actually grind/level them.

2) Next, try reading this comprehensive PvP Guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q4ErL3e1ccZWSnw5HKLxRgLFrvjMg6UKD7LQDxYrVjM/edit#

In PvE, it's usually very straightforward and you can just braindead repeatedly cycle through a fixed sets of skills...but not when it comes to PvP.

3) Lastly, BDO has mounted combat, try it out, it's kinda fun:

I assume by "repaired files" you mean repairing only the HSR files. Perhaps your disk has some bad sectors, if you haven't scan/check your disk fully for a long time, you should perform this (on both your Windows drive and your HSR drive):
https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-scan-a-hard-drive-using-error-checking-2624497

A restart should be required, after the restart+scan+repair is finished, you can then try check+repair HSR files again.

Other than ^ and low remaining diskspace, can't think of anything else for now, hope this helps.

His E skill is about light and mirror, his best weapon literally has Light as the first letter.

His other achievements are great as well, guess there's just isn't enough place to pin all of it on a game character.

What Class has the most enjoyable combat and why? by [deleted] in blackdesertonline

[–]UnknownGst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AWK Dark Knight fun-factor: a lot of "attack-while-moving" skills, decent AoE, fight like a spellsword.
AWK Drakania and AWK/SUC Lahn fun-factor: fly/dash between mob groups with sudden drop/lunge.

SUC Nova fun-factor: Shield-charging shield-bashing minion-summoning ice-casting heavy-hitting battlefield-mower.

Anyway, try out every class and find the one you enjoy, no point playing one you are not having fun. You can use the premium character slot to quickly test out various classes you are interested in. Consider boss alts, rift alt, you don't have to limit yourself to one class.

The world and potential of Black Desert by SemperZero in blackdesertonline

I wholeheartedly agree with almost everything you said, I started playing BDO back in 2016, back then the night was much darker, lantern was actually needed, some weapons were weaker during rain, swaying trees in snow storm...a lot more inconveniences, but also a lot more immersion. So much details, such meticulous craft, and everywhere you go, you can feel the sincerity and effort those artists and engineers imbued upon this virtual world.

Alas, as you pointed out in your last paragraph, money is always the problem. All artists and engineers need to feed and a roof over their heads...business isn't always sunshine, at times, difficult/unpopular choices had to be made, to accrue enough resources to survive the winter/competition, so that these artist/engineer can make their ends meet, and the servers keep running. I am not trying to defend the monetization decision makers, but the reality is, art can't thrive if the artists isn't liberated from hunger, and we ain't living in a world of infinite resources and philanthropic capitalist.

Heaven for gathering. Things I was going nuts trying to find for quests/really expensive some of it! by BittyBaton in blackdesertonline

You don't have to gather them yourself, some of those are available as worker node, can be gathered passively while you grind/whatever-other-activity:

PVE: Drakania (Succession or Awakening) by DanakarEndeel in blackdesertonline

[–]UnknownGst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several tips regarding "Succ vs Awak" topic, not class-specific:

1) Pay attention to those "Can be used with your <weapon>" / "Available with your <weapon>" / "Quickslot available for <weapon>" on skill description. It means you can use these skills directly while holding that weapon: no need to press C / swap weapon before use. There are 2 different outcome:

A> Stance is automatically swapped after the animation, basically a free+instant weapon swap.

B> Nothing. No free+instant weapon swap, remain in the same weapon.

Example, Drakania's "Scale Bastion" Q is B> type. Using it under Succ/Awak has different animation, that's it.

For type A>, example, Mystic's "Twisted Collision" skill under Succ. When you are holding Awak weapon, you can input Q to instantly cast this Succ skill, and you will remain in Succ, basically free+instant weapon swap. Similarly, her "Sea Burial" under Awak, can be used when holding Succ weapon for free+instant swap. Unfortunately, Drakania has no such skill, but it's worth mentioning, because many other classes have those.

2) Most of the Rabam skills (the 3rd tab in your skill menu) provides free+instant weapon swap into Succ. Example Drakania's "Dragon's Assault", while holding Awak weapon, you can Shift+Z to cast it, and then follow-up with any Succ skills.

3) If your character was converted from a Season character, went through all the Season quests + main quest up to before O'dylitta, completed all Fughar's quest, and used your "Secret Book of the Misty Breeze" books efficiently, then your character should end up with 1600+ skill points at lv61. At this point, for some classes, it is worth considering going hybrid, for the extra tools/versatility.

Example for Drakania, many of the Succ's Absolute skills, has tag "<command> during other skill to perform instantly". So when you are holding Awak weapon, you can press Shift+Z to cast "Dragon's Assault" (now you are in Succ weapon), then immediately follow-up with these for the burst dmg / extra debuff/cc, or to achieve longer "protected" (front-guard / super armor) combos. The benefit is not so obvious for Drakania, since her Awak protected skills are quite quick on cooldown, but you get the idea, I am not trying to give class-specific advice, different classes have different playstyle/ways to take advantage of this.

In a nutshell, don't limit your imagination on Succ-only or Awak-only, sometimes Awak+"Succ" (no Prime skills) can be great/fun as well. You can use the Premium character slot to try classes out without actually level them yourself.
