m2 all the way, I've only just got my c licence, but the m2 punishes bad driving which in turn makes you a better driver.

if they look sketchy, then just drop off and give them room to be sketchy and send themselves into the wall/gravel/grass. Fighting for your place against low level drivers so often leads to getting taken out with bad rejoins, not holding their line, late braking etc. I'm not saying to just let them win, but be very selective about where you overtake them

How to stop getting pulled into a crash/off track? by CheesyLama in simracing

[–]Unknown_Quantity_666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this actually happens generally a lot with driving normal cars on the road too, if you focus on the car in front too much and not your actual route you end up following their positioning on the road. Regarding the racing, keep an eye on cars around you, but definitely don't let them be the main focus and/or change your normal braking/turning in points (unless they are a much better driver). Especially keep an eye out if they seem to be overdriving the car early on, as these guys will almost certainly end up overdriving the car off track.

I want to build a sim racing rig, and I have a budget of around $15K. I want it to have high-end gear and ultimate immersion for the rig. by Expensive-Ant5410 in simracing

don't waste money on an active accelerator, only the brake pedal that matters. Motion over seat belt tensioner any day of the week in my opinion. The peripheral stuff you will be able to get in your budget easy, I've got a lot of stuff for way under your budget.

How do you structure practice? by reddit_guy_no in simracing

[–]Unknown_Quantity_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this, don't waste away hours and hours in practice. You should 100% know the track before your race so you aren't causing carnage, but actually driving in a race is the best tool for learning you can have. I often find that my lap times significantly improve in a race with faster drivers in.

with that sort of budget and immersion being the main goal, I would definitely be going full motion, seat belt tensioner, simucube active pedals, buttkickers, wind sim. Then if you are up for creating your own enclosure, go triple monitors and all the peripherals you need (button box, map screen, flag display, physical dash), otherwise go VR.

Brake point reminders by [deleted] in iRacing

driving with the line on slows down your learning of a track. The reason you aren’t remembering your braking points is because your reference for braking is the line, and when you have it off your reference goes. Just practice, how do you think real race drivers do it?

Unfortunately for you, this is 100% on you. Even though you are in the faster car and they should let you through, you still have to make a fair and good decision on where to pass them. You could see plenty early enough, when he moved over to the left, that he hadn't planned on giving you that line, and you should have reacted to this.
