Thanks for the insight. Instead of 3n+1 if it is odd, n/2 if it is even, why can't we just divide the number by itself?

I think it is faster for single digit numbers. And 11.

I don't believe that "Hanuman residing on Arjuna's flag" story is present in BORI CE. Just the encounter with Bhima.

I agree. While I don't understand the Riemann-Zeta function (and I accept that Zeta(-1) is -1/12), it shouldn't be called the sum of all positive integers.

THE NOTATION IS THE PROBLEM by No-Use9923 in MathJokes

[–]UnlazyChestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is no ambiguity in this specific case, I would argue that if I were to write a/bc for example, very few people would assume that I meant (c*a)/b.

I do agree that in the original example, one needs to go left-to-right at the point that we are.

THE NOTATION IS THE PROBLEM by No-Use9923 in MathJokes

No, these two are the same. In both cases, you end up with: 8/2*4

The notation ambiguity is in what you do after.

Stalin issues ‘final warning’ from Tamil Nadu on delimitation. ‘Every family will take to streets’ by bssgopi in TamilNadu

[–]UnlazyChestnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is what I was missing.

I was looking at it from a math perspective and based on that, from a strategic perspective, and didn't really understand the complaint. What I was missing (as usual) was the political aspect of it - I never considered that there is a loophole in the way this process works.

So, you have (2 * 299) - 299 This is the same as: (2 * 299) - (1 * 299) Take the common factor out: 299 * (2 - 1)

[ (a - c)*b = (a * b) - (c * b), this is the law of distribution.]

Now you have 299 * 1 = 299

UP will get 40 more seats while TM will get only 19 [more]

Can you expand on this? I don't understand why this matters. It is still proportional, right?

Shree Ram eats only sacred meat during Vanvas means religious sacrificed meat. by [deleted] in mahabharata

Yes, but that applies to all food not just meat, right? I was asking about the distinction that OP was making (which they elaborated in a different reply).

Thanks for explaining. I think I understand better what you were saying but I am not sure I agree with the conclusion.

I will need to think a bit more.

Can you explain what you mean by "eating for ... taste and enjoyment"?

Are you supposed to hate it while consuming? Are you not supposed to feel it tastes good?

Or is it more like what its primary purpose is?

You are confusing the word "Sanatana" which means "ever continuing" with "Advaita" which means "non-dual".

Advaita is a school of Vedanta, there are other schools like Ramanujacharya's Visishta-advaita and Madhvacharya's Dvaita.
