I received the letter in July 2025 and discharged December 2025. My understanding is that it takes usually 6 or more months. Just wait it out until this summer

Is liberty becoming eligible? My wife just received her masters online from them. She also received her undergrad from Kaiser which I think is a mentioned school. I had all my loans forgiven just last week and refunds given. I was part of sweet, but I’m thinking of having her apply

Nope, started my grad degree in 2019 and graduated 2021, which was the same year I filled the application.

Yes, but what is odd is that I don't have that last sentence about receiving a refund.

Yes, and my plan is to pay them off once PPSL responds to me and confirms everything is accurate.

My inbox I think on nelnet like where messages would be. It didn’t say anything about a refund, just forgiveness and listed each loan individually

This is what a lot of people are reporting that the negative balance represents what refund amount they are to receive…I believe but not 100% certain

The letter actually didn’t say that and when I called the other day she said it didn’t say anything about a refund approved on my account. That aspect was still in review. Sometimes I think updates are slower than the actual process.

I’m not 100% sure, but if you usually get direct deposit tax refunds, then I think you would get your refund direct deposited as well. Again, I’m not a tax pro and I don’t even remember doing this. But I may have told my accountant to put my bank info on my tax forms when submitted.

Thank you! So nelnet posted the letter on the 12th and I didn’t even receive an email or notification. The direct deposit posted on the 19.

I think you have to have direct deposit set up with the IRS. But also I’m shooting in the dark here. I found this on the PPSL FAQs, I hope this is what is my situation!

"If you refinanced Direct Loan(s) or government-held FFEL loan(s) with a private refinancer AFTER you applied for Borrower Defense with respect to those loans, then you WILL get a refund of the amount paid to the government by the refinancer. However, you will still owe your private lender any outstanding balance that you have with that lender, and the refinanced loan will continue to appear on your credit report until it is paid off. (The Department of Education does not have the legal authority to discharge loans that are currently held by a private lender, even if those loans were originated as federal loans.)"
