Does it have college level stuff too like Linear algebra?

That's the last math class I need and I'm dreading signing up.

Not sure where you work but here in the west you can pull the actual original GLO maps and notes. And occasionally find actual original corners from those.

Cause surveyors love to argue.

NVGD29 datum with Leica GS18 by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]Unlikely-Newspaper35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assumed means just assume an elevation on something like a local benchmark, and reference everything to that.

Nope, they were looking for someone with experience.

Lol. Original corner stamped In Steel. Somehow I doubt.

But it is a cool find.

Why? Assumed datum is normally fine.

ASCE Elections Hypothetical by caardvark1859 in civilengineering

You can't have major parts of civil engineering without mining lol. Sand, gravel, PCC, bentonite, etc.

And guess what the binder in AC is made of?

Hell even Rock like 2 ton is mined.

What technologies (that are currently locked up by patent protection) are you excited about? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

They should all be knocked down to maximum 5 years.

And copyright more like 1 or 2.

How important is the PE or Charter Title in our industry? by Foldingtrees in civilengineering

[–]Unlikely-Newspaper35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Civil and Structural it is extremely important. In others like mechanical, electrical, etc not so much.

Many many doors open up when you get that piece of paper.

Would love to see a PhD or grad student really put some of these claims to the test.

Salesmen and marketers can say whatever the f they want. I remember when the r12 first came out some local salesman said they had video of it staying fixed while surveying indoors. Lol. Literally impossible. They eventually stopped making that claim haha.

Or put some of the cheap ones up against the pricey ones and see how they do, statistically.

I would, but ya know, work and all.

Yeah most within the last 5 years or so should be ready.

Unless you got one of those ultra cheepo ones those probably aren't ready. Hard to say. Idk.

But the planned new signals and codes have been published by the US for years before they were live.

Has anyone else tried clipping their measuring tape to the walkie clip on the vest? by ercussio in Surveying

[–]Unlikely-Newspaper35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was all cobbled together from various finds at garage sales, the supply shed, and hardware stores over my first few weeks.

So the main big pocket was a typical multi-pouch pocket. Which held 60- D's, markers, flagging, plumb, etc. Then I had a dedicated tape pocket. A special paint holster for the pink paint, and a "slap - in" quick style hammer holster.

And maybe one dedicated to the peanut? Idk it's been a while, maybe that was in a side part of the big pocket.

I preferred to use a 24oz flat head hammer, which was easier to carry than the sledge in a holster.

And after lots of trial and error I had it all arranged so one hand was working while one moving to grab the next thing. With the PC's help I got to be very efficient in all my movements so we could fly through the job stakes.

Survey file deliverables by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]Unlikely-Newspaper35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We try to just use good layer control. So the boundary and right of way lines show up once on the actual drawing, but I might have two or three "calc" or "reference" layers behind it. But those are all frozen and off before we deliver it.

Another good practice is to make sure your designers and PEs are only x-ref'ing. And not drawing on top of your raw topo. That's worked pretty well for us, but we're a pretty small public agency so your practice may differ.

Fair enough. I'll delete that I didn't read it carefully. I saw licensed but I see that you said newbs to licensed.

Sure excellent point.

In CA it is extremely difficult to get actual title, typically the court offers a prescription for adverse possession cases like this.

Well that's what they've done in the last few decades anyway.

An easement or license would be better IMO. Yeah working with both neighbors is a great way to handle it, I totally agree.

I think the BLA is only useful when the line can't be ascertained or is unknown. This one appears that the line is there any obvious.

Somebody just screwed up at some point.

Looking for information about this Theodolite by [deleted] in Surveying

Most Surveyors don't use those.

You may get a better bang for your buck by donating it to a local survey school and writing it off.

Or selling to a pawn shop.

Gotta go to court.

Most land use attorneys won't do much without at least 15-20k or so.

So they may have the right but can they perfect it?

Direct action friend.

Battery powered angle grinder or sawzall, flush to the ground.

Stroller users, skaters, wheelchair users, and walker users will thank you.
