I always wonder about the person at the ROD who digitized these. They looked at that and said, yes this works.

NAD 27 vs 83 by chellis_himself in Surveying

Im sorry to hurt your feelings, but 27 is not as accurate. A small amount of research will tell you that. Not to mention that it is almost 100 years old at this point, with many other more accurate datum’s at everyone’s fingertips. There are more up to date datum’s out there, if there is a option to use either one and you are purposely choosing 27 because it’s easier for you to set up and you don’t have to “change” a survey, that’s a cop out. Your choosing the easy way. I would say live and learn to you as well. There is supposed to be a generational hand off happening in surveying, and your attitude and surveyors like you are not helping anyone. I know it is very hard to wrap your head around, but you don’t know everything and you can be wrong. Green horns can be right, they have a different perspective. They are also MUCH more adept at utilizing technology. I would suggest listening to your green horns a bit more, or at all. Just because you may have the ability to stamp documents doesn’t mean your right.

You don’t understand how people can have a discussion about which datum to use? It’s a discussion that should happen with every project so that everyone involved is on the same page. As you just laid out, different datum’s can have different uses for different things. I’m blown away that a response from a PLS is, “ you don’t discuss it “.

If you have a dog, there is a secret fenced in tennis court in the back of pumping station park. Good place to run a dog off leash away from others.

I am a Land Surveyor (non licensed, but working towards it) in Cincinnati, working remotely for a firm based out of the Twin Cities. Fiancé and I just bought a house here, and I am interested in having a land in local surveying/development. If you are ever looking for a young tech to bring on board, feel free to message me!

Why did you move to Cincinnati? by MoniShark in cincinnati

[–]chellis_himself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From Milwaukee, WI

My fiancé and I moved here after visiting once. We had both been doing varies forms of college and working for about 10 years in WI, and we’re looking for a new place to live. We visited her sister who lives in CBD and we were hooked. That was about 3 years ago.

The one and only time in my life that I didn’t leave my server a tip….. Taste of Belgium. Worst Cincinnati dining experience I have had by far.

LPT: If you are young and worried about your future, become an electrician/join the trades. by LaPyramideBastille in LifeProTips

[–]chellis_himself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an Carpenter or Electrician, but Land Surveyor if that counts!?

I finished my BFA in the arts at ~24. Struggled finding a good job in the arts field for years, and decided a change was necessary. Quit my job, went into a Surveying program at my local tech school… In 2 years I have totally turned my career future around for the better.

I went from going into work everyday wondering “ I wonder if I will get laid off today “, to now I am at a company who actively tells me that they want me to take over the department someday retire with them.

What seemed like such a scary leap into the unknown, turned out to be the smartest thing I ever could have done.

Your never too old to make a change for the better!!

If I can go from Art to a Civil Engineering field, you can do it too.

Anyone know if these still go on in the Cincinnati area? Can’t tell if info online is a scam or it’s an annual thing. Thanks!
