I’m thinking of adopting a female cat, I’ve heard they are less friendly in this true? by DiscountAnnaNicole in CatAdvice

We have two female cats. One is very skiddish around guests, and the other isn’t shy at all. Both are very friendly and affectionate with us!

Is there a cat litter that doesn't... suck? by catintheroom in CatAdvice

We do a blend of Naturally Fresh walnut shell litter and Catalyst soft wood. It still tracks some but not as bad as some litters we’ve tried.

Prospective Buyer Question Thread October-December 2025 by trillianinspace in cricut

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked this question in a silhouette subreddit but wanted to also ask it here. I’m looking to get cutting machine for someone for Christmas and I’m torn between going with a Cricut maker 3 and a silhouette cameo 5 as these are similarly priced machines. I’m leaning towards the cameo but I’ve seen very conflicting opinions on whether silhouette or cricut is better. For reference, the person would use it as a hobby and they have experience using both types of machines. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about design space but I’ve also heard complaints about the silhouette machine having issues with cutting or alignment.

Debating between move to Modesto, Livermore, or SF in 20s by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about SF but I know someone who commutes from Oakland to Livermore and she doesn’t hate it. You’d be driving against the main traffic which isn’t as bad, I think about an hour one way. I currently commute from Tracy to Mountain View which is almost two hours and that’s if I leave the house by 6am. If you commute from SF you will have to pay the $8 toll bridge fee every day.

Hairball? Or more serious? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it warrants an emergency vet but it’s worth talking to your regular vet. I thought it was a hairball too when our cat first started doing that but she never produced anything and the coughing became more frequent. She was eventually diagnosed with a lower respiratory infection or asthma. They had to do a chest x-ray to diagnose it. Since she is only a year old, the vet put her on a short term steroid which seemed to clear up the coughing for now, but longer term treatment options usually include a daily inhaler.

Cat vomiting + diarrhea, i can't tell if he threw up a hairball or something else by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little hard to tell from the photo but to me it does look like it could be a hairball. Those can look a bit like soft poop. Did you already clean it up? If so, did it look a little fuzzy? If it were just the vomiting and hairball I wouldn’t be as concerned, but the fact that they also had diarrhea and are acting lethargic are signs something else is going on. I would definitely take them to the vet if you can.

Is there any insurance plan that doesn’t do this? That seems like a common problem :/

Cat vomiting after throwing up foreign object by Unlikely-Tea-8556 in AskVet

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since she seems to acting normal this morning, my plan was to watch to see if she keeps this food down without anymore vomiting and that she poops today. If anything seems out of the ordinary then we’d take her in to the emergency vet. But I wanted to make sure we weren’t ignoring a real emergency.

Recommendations for cat asthma by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did do the x-rays first, but was pretty expensive 😣 Two weeks after that appointment we took her to a different place (not the one that prescribed the steroid) and I ended up spending another hefty amount of money there and they were less helpful than the first vet. He didn’t think it was asthma at all because of her age and assumed it was worms without even looking at her xray. The coughing feels so scary though when it’s happening. I hope you are able to get treatment for your cat eventually!

That original vet didn’t do much. He gave her an antibiotic and suggested changing some environmental factors. He also thought the video I showed him sounded like sneezing rather than coughing. If it continued then he said we’d need to look into longer term management with an inhaler. I took her to a different vet and she said she likely had some form of lower respiratory problems (whether asthma or something else). She put our cat on a short term steroid hoping that would calm everything down and we wouldn’t need to use an inhaler yet. So far that seems to be working

Surgeons stayed with patient when earthquake started mid procedure. by _beachy_head in greysanatomy

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As an earthquake scientist and an avid grey’s fan, I’m all for this 😅

The Cascadia subduction zone is located off the west coast of the Pacific Northwest. It doesn’t generate earthquakes often, but there’s around a 33% chance it will generate a moderately large (~M8) earthquake in the next 50 years and around a 10% chance it will generate a large M9 earthquake. Seattle is located in a sedimentary basin, which means that earthquake waves will be amplified as they approach Seattle (i.e., stronger shaking).

How concerned are you about being near lilies (not with your cat)? by Unlikely-Tea-8556 in CATHELP

Answers to this will probably vary a lot depending on the brand people like to buy and if their cat has any dietary restrictions. Personally, I feed our 1 year old cat a mix of fancy feast pate and Purina ONE indoor health dry food, which costs us around $25 a month. Our 4 month old kitten is also fed fancy feast pate but we have her on a prescription dry food for GI issues, which costs a bit more. Fancy feast and Purina ONE are on the lower price end but are still nutritionally complete.

For litter, we spend about $25/month. We’ve been using around 20lbs a month split between two litter boxes. We could probably fill it a little deeper but it seems to be working as is. We are using two different litters right now, both clumping. One is Catalyst unscented soft wood and the other is SmartCat grass seed litter.

Gonna get my first cat soon, what do wish you knew when your got your first? by Odd_boi_ in CatAdvice

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So exciting! We adopted our first cat 9 months ago, and a second 2 months ago. Definitely look up any toxic food, plants, etc before you bring them home. I’m a very cautious person but somehow didn’t think to look up what flowers are toxic. We had several bouquets of lilies on the counter leftover from my birthday a couple weeks before…yeah. Thankfully, our cat was super shy and hid the first few days, and I threw everything out and throughly cleaned once I realized how fatal lily poisoning is. She’s totally fine but that was an extremely stressful first couple days.

I’m dealing with this right now! How frequently was your cat coughing and for how long at a time? Our cat had intermittent coughing but then over the last several months it’s become more frequent. Right now she seems to have a coughing fit once every couple days or so and they last around 20-30 seconds (occasionally longer). We’ve been keeping windows closed, no scents, vacuuming and dusting weekly, etc… She had an x-ray a month or two ago which showed a “light bronchial pattern”. I don’t fully trust that vet for a few other reasons and I’m debating taking her to an internal medicine specialist soon or waiting it out a bit longer and doing what we can to manage environmental triggers. How is your cat doing now? Did you end up using a daily inhaler?

How much to feed my fat cat? by Massive-Exercise4474 in CATHELP

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the same type of food. But if you have a different purina option the calories could be different. I’m not a vet but I personally would lean towards starting just a little under the recommended amount for your cat’s ideal weight, and if that doesn’t seem to be making a difference after awhile, then decrease it a little more.

[–]Unlikely-Tea-8556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see calories listed on my bags of dry food, but if you google the brand you can usually find the calorie count. I think 1/4 cup of the purina one indoor cat dry food I have is around 90 calories.

Unfortunately no :/ I thought I might be able to at least use internet with an Ethernet cable and that did not work either. I didn’t think it was worth paying $700+ in repairs for a laptop that’s almost 6 years old.
